Why not just get it for 40 bucks and find it out yourself?

Oh I will as soon as it's out and I have the cash, but I don't want to end up with a headfive or glite and have to dump it because it's no better.

Given that the Glite is a completely discrete design with individual PSU, I doubt that the Zhaolu stock amp will seriously nudge it at all. But it is always good to know that it can stand its own ground against most sub $200 amps.

Glite has its own PSU? I thought it ran on a wall wart.

The PSU comes seperately, see here.

Hi Puffin,

Shipping to UK cost $69.6 USD. So for the D2.0 with CS-4398/free upgrades/Blackgates upgrade cost me a total of $286.93.

With the dollar being weak at the moment (good time to buy), the cost came out to £157.77 GBP.

If this beats my £250 640C CDP I will be a very happy man indeed.

Does the "free upgrades" refer to the service of upgrading the components of your choice (i.e. Blackgates)? If so, does anyone know how much it cost to have the upgrading done when the offer is over?

$70 is a pretty hefty cost for shipping. I am thinking of waiting until I visit HK at some point to pick one up to save on the shipping cost. But that only makes sense of Eddie doesn't end up charging $50 for modding

Eddie is not charging extra for shipping. I checked out EMS shipping costs to the Uk and it is 70 dollars for 4kg.

The free upgrades refer to the 2 upgrades he will do for the first 100 pieces sold. How much these upgrades will cost after the offer, I have no idea. I paid $55 extra for the blackgates upgrade.

According to his website, the free upgrades which he is offering now include:

"A- Main DA replace OPA-2604 at butter stage with DY-2000 Ceramic to obtain smooth at Vocal and higher defination.

B- Replace headphone Amp part OPA-2604 with two LT-1057 to obtain more dynamic and rigid bass."

And I don't think that is selectable.

*whew*

Ok, I read around half the thread and then had to stop. I must say that this one looks a bit less sketchy than the 1.x and I think they have a real winner considering the cost. I'd still like to see some more impressions, but it's looking interesting.

A couple questions:

Has anyone tried this DAC? It is sold by the same US company that is distributing the Zhaolu.

Anyone recieved the DAC with the BB1794 chip yet or the upgraded internal headphone amp?
Ah, thanks. Would it be possible to get the free upgrade, then pay for whichever is not there?

@practitioner: Oh yea, I didn't imply that he charges extra. Only that it is no small sum. The whole thing is a bargain, but when I consider that I could save 25% (and the potential issues with shipping), then I am willing to be patient I am, after all, someone who quietly waited for my K701 for several months without counting the days. If I can wait several months for a pair of headphones, I can wait several months for a DAC

BB1794 won't be available until June or July. Headphone amp upgrade due in a week or two I believe. Nobody has either yet.

So now I could order the D2.0 with opamp and capacitor tweaks, maybe clock?
Then later the BB DAC and headphone amp?

Does anyone have an idea of roughly how the pricing of the 3rd DAC board will compare to the other two? I still can't figure out whether to go for the CS BB1794 chip and whether the latter is worth the wait.

The PSU is also 2/3 the cost of the amp I guess I'll just stick with the headfive.
