Speaker upgrade

Hi guys,

I'd like to know how bad my current computer speakers/amp setup is, and recommendations for upgrade.

I currently use a set of Infinity RS2000 speakers with a Luxman LV-103 amp. I prefer the sound on my Senn HD555, I find it much clearer and overall better. So I am wondering what sorta speakers will sound just as good (or better).

I read the "Wow, speakers are so ridiculously hard to get into..." and the "Desktop speakers for a T-amp" threads and found the responses there quite helpful.

I am wondering if the recommendations there will be significantly be better than what I have and give me the kind of result i want.

I am guessing my amp is ok, and I should be focused on the speakers. Would a budget of $100-500 be enough?

At around $600 is where you start running into the nicer speakers. There are some speakers in this price category that are the best at any price so long as you don't care too much about bass. Good speakers should be much more detailed than Senn HD555's btw, many are even more detailed than Sony SA5000 but without the harsh treble. I have some recommendations in mind at around $600, let me know if you're willing to widen your budget!

Speakers have come a long way since the RS2000's you bought. I think any of the $400-600 speakers will provide a pretty satisfying listen....there are lots of great ones to choose from depending on your listening prefs.

I'm pretty partial to the Epos, Monitor Audio, Castle, Totem brands in this price range.

Wow, thx guys, I'll be really satisfied if it sounds more detail than my HD555s(haven't had the chance to listen to better ones yet)...

I guess for me speaker placement is a problem. I'd like to listen from my desk. I've got a set of speaker stands. If i place them on either side of the desk and face them towards me, would it be ok?

I'm on a bit of a tight budget, but since I've heard positive replies from you guys, I'm thinking of getting http://www.theloudspeakerkit.com/sho...&ProcessType=1
