At this price range I don't think you can go wrong with either so it depends on what type of sound you like. I prefer the Azur 640C V1 over the NAD 542 (which I had for few weeks, burned in unit) cause my taste steers towards that direction, wide soundstage, fast and airy sounding. The V2 is suppose to be better and they changed the transformer too and you can turn off the display.

I've been using the V1 for under a year and there were a few times when the transport got noisy but that was the extent of it.

Well ive pretty much made up my mind now and im going to go with the NAD.The quailty issues regarding the Azur just put me off it in the end as like i said before i want something to last me a while.I guess more importantly was that from reading the views are that the NAD is less bright than the Azur which suit my listening needs better. Thanks for your input il be putting in my order tomorrow.

I'd agree with all thats been said. Esp as far as Cambridge Audio go...I have had a CA integrated amp for a while and don't get me wrong its a cracking thing for the money and gives me no trouble now but....the amp chips did explode after about 2 years....seems the heat conductive paste hadn't been applied properly. Luckily I have some good diy mates and had them replaced and has worked fine after that. Apart from that I think the CA often have better build quality than similar priced things, at least from the few things I've opened up.

I've had an old sony source for years now...can't remember the model but I paid about £300 10 years ago for it which was a fair bit then. It's still silky smooth in all respects...sound, transport etc, never had any problems. Same with all sony stuff I've owned...it always seems to last. Also the dynamic range is 2-20,000hz whereas the standard for budget cdp now seems to be 20-20,000 for some reason? Mind u again I base that on only a handful of players I looked at.

Only problem is i fell on my cdp once and dented it badly so been looking at a new cdp, was tempted by the 640c v2 but let me know how ur purchase goes! I'd be pretty pissed if I bought a new cdp and my dented 10year old sony was better than it lol!

Did they used to make em better? oops don't wanna start another "vintage cdp" discussion!
