You're kidding right?

HP3000 = modded HP1000

The HP1000's are rare, much more expensive, and look cooler. In addition there's not much to mod short of recabling or getting Larry to CD3000 them, but the K340 has things like screens and crossovers inside.

Why play God with perfection?

Its the same reason I'll never mod my RS-1's, they're too damn pretty for starters

I think my K340's look a helluva lot cooler than HP1000's. Though that is a personal opinion... and mine aren't exactly stock.

tons of people mod the rs-1

new screens, fiber material in the "resonator tube," cutting the face off of the driver, recabling, removing the paper on the back of the drivers, the list continues.

I wouldn't say "tons"... a few maybe.

The HP1000 in its stock form is too beautiful and pure to mess with via modding. Well, at least I think so

It's like taking a old vintage rare ferrari and attaching a ricer spoiler to it.

assuming the ferrari didnt have one to start....

grado cables althogh better than most other stock cables are not as good as a good aftermarket cable. they should all be replaced, asap! seriously.

its sooo easy with the drivers held in by set-screws too...

Oh really? I've noticed with headphone cable swaps it's more of a flavor change than a quality change. The HP1000's I've heard don't need a flavor change. Plus the stock cable looks good and is ergonomic. I'd pay much more for an HP1000 with a stock JGUWBWR cable than an aftermarket one.

i like the recable on my HP-2s, but it was more for getting a decent cable length (i don't like extension cables) than to change the sound in any way. i still have the original cable, though.

Honestly I just don't think the HPs need any mods. The closest I've come is preferring bowls over flats (sacrilege! I know...)

I simply prefer the stock sound vs. the modded headphile HP3000's I reviewed previously for 6moons. With the stock HP-1000 sound, I find nothing I would want to change. The cable made a huge difference to my ears, I heard the standard bandwidth and it made me hate the HP-1000's, utterly boring and dull with no dynamics or highs, was too bassy and dark. The ultra-wide bandwidth opens up the highs much more and is an overall more dynamic and lively HP-1000. Larry's HP3000 conveyed more depth with an airier sound, overall it sounded cleaner but the stock HP-1000's with ultra-wide bandwidth sound so coherent and balanced to my ears I don't want to bother with it, even though Larry has always told me I should
