New Beatles Remasters!!!

Neil Aspinall, a former Beatles road manager and managing director of Apple Corps, said that the company was digitally remastering the entire Beatles catalog in preparation of selling it online. “I think it would be wrong to offer downloads of the old masters when I am making new masters,” he said. “It would be better to wait and try to do them both simultaneously so that you then get the publicity of the new masters and the downloading, rather than just doing it ad hoc.” A spokeswoman for Apple Corps confirmed Aspinall’s statement.

HERE is the link.

Remastering for non-compressed releases or remastering strictly for compressed downloads? What does "make new masters" mean? How can you remake a master tape? In otherwords, he's using the master tapes for new mixes. Better ear than George Martin (had)?

darn it lol you beat me to making this topic

According to other reports, they will be in CD format as well w/ updated cover art (may be rumors; don't take it from me personally). However, maybe they will botch up the remastery...

darn it, and I just bought 5 of their albums!

If the remastering is done at the dreaded Abbey Road (and it most likely will be), we can expect them to sound like absolute dog poop (they are some of the worst mastering engineers on the planet). They will be compressed, no-noised, and EQ-ed to death.

I've personally been holding off on buying Beatles albums on CD simply because the mastering is horrible. I think anything could beat what is currently out there, but will still wait and see after it is done before I purchase anything. I hate how Apple Music claims to "preserve the integrity of the music" when it sounds like crap and is the last to do anything.

My prediction is that there will rapidly become a time when we look back nostalgicaly at the current 80's masters of the Beatles catalogue and say-- "them's was the days". As average as they are, at least they aren't no-noised, compressed, or over EQ-ed.

I hope to God that they are not compressed, no-noised, and EQ-ed to death. Capitol did an excellent job with their remasters. I hope they can at least match the level of the Capitol re-releases. I have been holding off on buying their recordings until they get proper remastering jobs.

%^&*! %^*! I was just starting a Beatles collection. All of their LP's and now I don't know whether I should start buying up the rest before the new masters or wait to see what they sound like and try to find my preferred version after the fact. Looking at todays trend for mastering I can't say that I'm very hopeful. Any opinions? What should I do?

I have been waiting for this for a while. It was inevitable. I am very doubtful of the 'improvements' that they will make.

My guess is that the 80's versions will be the better ones. On the upside those 80's discs will no doubt go on sale when the remasters appear.

Buy the current releases quick. The new ones are bound to be monkeyed around with.

See ya
Steve
