Lets organize a meet for New Orleans area

Anyone located in that area please post in this thread.

It won't be the first ever... because the first ever already happened

I will repost the impressions in the correct forums now

If the meet has already happened, shouldn't it go in the "Head-Fi Meet Impressions" section?

Well this idea went...

Edit: If this ever happens I am willing to help with any type of planning that would be needed. I would love to listen to some gear other than my own.

I wouldn't mind a New Orleans meet but it doesn't seem like there are a lot of people from here on this forum. And by the way, New Orleans sucks as far a finding a store to buy decent high end IEMs. If there are and New Orleanians who know of good places to find them please let me know.

I don't know anywhere. My friend bought a pair of Sure SE535 at the airport. I just tried looking the place up. I think it may have been InMotion Entertainment, but I am not sure. I think he paid $500+ for them there. Dumb move on his part. I am not sure if they let you test them, and I am guessing the selection is slim.

I think Alterman Audio closed. I don't remember seeing Headphones while I was at Wilson Audio, and I thought Off the Wall audio was a horrible store. I have yet to check out Uptown Audio Video, but from the site I think it is mostly custom Home Theater install, but they do have nice brands. I think it is run by a guy who used to work at Audio Resources, before they moved to Baton Rouge.

If I had the money I would love to run an audio store that specializes in headphones. I don't have money, and it would more than likely fail. For all the music the city has, it seems to have little in the area of high end Audio. Maybe the locals just don't get on the internet and talk about it.

Yeah, Alterman closed: http://www.altermanaudio.com/AAclose.html

It already is hard enough to be an independent audio store in a really big city like Seattle, New York. Our beloved New Orleans is sadly small fry comparatively.

I won't say the stuff they had was bad, but I have never been a huge Sony or Klipsch fan, and they seemed to be filled with that stuff. I am guessing that was the only place in the city that sold Anthony Gallo stuff. I have never heard any of it, and I guess now I won't.

Best Buy's Magnolia Department can not have helped. I used to do a lot of Shopping at Best Buy, but I try to avoid it if all possible now.

There must be a small group of audio enthusiasts in the city. If there wasn't Wilson Audio could not stay open. All the other high end shops specialize in custom home theater installs. I am not saying they don't cary very nice products, just that I bet 75% of their customers have never heard of the brands they are buying. Every rich person wants a nice home theater. I feel like you have to care more to want a nice stereo today.

I guess no one in the city listens to headphones, since I have honestly seen nowhere to buy them. Well there is Guitar Center, Best Buy, and the Apple store, but none of those really count in my mind.

Hey Mikeenike,

What part of town do you live? I used to be neighbors with a guy who called himself that.

Avondale on the Westbank.

No, never lived there. I have lived in Metairie most of my life, but I was living near Esplanade and Broad at the time, around the Gentilly area.
