Okay, shipping away ALL my things for RMA...how to?

My AKG K701s rattle on the left side when tapped, and my UE super.fi 5 Pros housing is cracking. I have the green light from both companies to ship them away for repair.

However, I am scared, as this is my first time shipping away big items. Do I just get any big brown box for them? What about the postage? How do I know how many stamps I should put on there??

Many thanks guys for your replies.

Edit: Can I use any brown box i find around my house?

Just go to any UPS store and they should give you enough instructions to get through. Also, remember, headphones are fragile things, don't spare on any packaging materials, e.g: stuffed paper, packaging peanuts, etc. Good luck and sorry about your headphones.

Yes. Just bring everything to the UPS store, and they usually have some boxes for packaging. But I would prefer to have my own boxes (cheaper!), and make sure that everything is wrapped in some good layers of paper or other soft material to prevent further damage from transportation.

No problem. Just some life experience I picked up along the way

Beware, the UPS store will charge a LOT to ship your packages out. I'd recommend USPS or FedEx if you have a location close by...

Well, my mom said that there is a postage store right across the street. I'll see what's up with them...they aren't UPS or FedEx from what I gather, so...

Im not sure how AKG does R.M.A.s but when I sent my fi5 pros U.E. asked to make sure to have the R.M.A. number written on the outside of the box , include inside copy of bill of sale , return shipping adress and short reason for the return. I imagine all this is supposed to speed things up , good look , mine took a little under 2 weeks.

^ Yup, the head of UE told me all that on an email. Strange, I came here to ask where I should write the RMA (on the UE package or the box), and you just happened to already answer my question.

Thanks y'all.

lol my dad came in here yelling at me how these things I buy are so poorly made for how much I spent on them. My bad luck that I have to get the bad batches...

Don't feel bad, 2 amps I bought had to be returned in a matter of weeks after I bought them and after waiting 2 months for one of them.

Make sure you get some tracking on your packages so you know when they are recieved.

Most usps, fedex and ups sell boxes if you have problem getting one. I usually save the boxes I recieve things in for quite awhile just in case.

I like fedex for prices. they seem more reliable then usps and ups just charges more. But I did use usps last few times with tracking number and priority shipping and it worked out fine. Priority shipping is like 3 or 4 day shipping.

Make sure you have a tracking number and insurance. Those two things are the most important things outside of decent packaging.

Also, don't feel bad about it. Every audiophile has had to get things repaired. The funny thing is that the more you spend on something the more likely it will need a repair in this hobby. My cheaper PSB/NAD/NHT stuff worked flawlessly. My newer much more pricey CD player, amp, speakers and cables have all needed a repair of some point.

...insurance? You mean I have to go the UPS store and ask for insurance in case they f up the package during transit? I saw a sticker like that before...

anyway, with UE, on my email, it asks for a WRITTEN response about the problem. Do you think just typing it would be good enough?

My advice:
Go to the post office. As in the USPS post office. Tell them you want to ship 2 packages with delivery confirmation and insurance, via priority mail. They should give you boxes for free. You might have to buy your own packing materials (i use peanuts, bubble wrap, or balled up newspaper), but the box should be free for priority mail, just ask. Delivery confirmation they will give you a number so that you can track it on the internet, and see when it is delivered. Insurance is you pay a few bucks so that if it gets lost or broken, they will pay you whatever you insured it for (value wise).
USPS priority mail will be least expensive and fastest.
