so... have people called u crazy? - Page 9

I never really tell people how much I've spent, always downplaying it. They still say I'm insane, but atleast it sounds more acceptable to them.

Regardless, I don't really care what people think, I consider this a nice hobby and just about every hobby costs money.

I am new here as I wanted a pair of quality IEMs to help with my daily commute as I was tired of having my music or study material drowned out by the world and his dog. I settled on a pair of Shure E4s after doing some research around the web in terms of noise cancelling vs sound isolation.

I came into it like most, in the sense that how can anyone pay that kind of money for dinky little 'earbuds' but after having used them, I really understand why you guys do what you do. When used with my new Cowon D2, which is also phenomenal, well, it's fair to say that it's like rediscovering my music all over again. I went back to my stock earbuds and my 1st gen Nano for a comparison and it felt like I was listening underwater or something as the sound just seemed so lifeless and flat. So yes I must be crazy as well and some have already said that to me when I mentioned the price of the E4s.

I am also into photography and it's the same with lenses. Good glass costs a small fortune but to those used to P&S cameras, spending a good amount of GBP/JPY/USD/EUR on lenses seems like madness as well (until they look at the photos)

my rationale is that my hobby will eventually end up costing around $1000-$2000 max... and with that, my hobby costs much less than "shopping" every 2-3 weeks

they still call me crazy though. =(

Yup! I love to tell people how much my headphones cost just to see their reactions.
And I look even crazier when my ER4P looks so cheap.
But whatever, the real crazy people are the ones who spend $300 on a music player, and use the supplied $1 earbuds.

Yes, well said astro. I now look at the plethora of white buds and think, if only you knew!
can you really blame them though, they don't know any better

I will not have any problem with bragging about my $300 E4C's god willing m parent's get them for my birthday on Friday. I can't spend too much on headphones and I need canal phones because I need the isolation, but someday I will get nicer stuff.

Just as crazy as those who spend loads on mobile phones and designers.

I bring it up all the time when they look at me funny.

Usually I don't disclose what else I'm going to spend on (*cough* Benchmark DAC-1 *cough*) but they find out eventually and close friends just dismiss it as a hobby they can't change.

As concerned as they are of my spending habits, they can't do anything about it so they accept it. I was *crazy* for a few months, the girlfriend doesn't mind though or maybe she does but isn't telling me ..

I definitely don't tell people how much money I have spent on headphones and amps any more. I learned a long time ago that it isn't worth it to try and explain it away; you either get it or you don't. I made the mistake of telling some friends how much I paid for my e500's a while back (I thought I got a good deal only paying 340 for them on ebay) and I didn't hear the end of it. "how can you spend more money on your headphones than you did on your ipod?" was all they asked me for about two weeks.

Meh...the enlightened ones know. I gave my father a pair of super.fi's over the holidays and he can't stop raving about them. Now he sort of understands. He still doesn't get why I need to have 5 different earphones (I don't need them, but its nice to be able to have em right?), though he did admit that they all do sound great but different when he tried them all the last time I visited my parents.

The only one who knows how much i spend on headphones and such is my girlfriend. Thankfully she is supportive as long as i can pay my half of the rent. Plus, every time i upgrade she gets my hand-me-downs.

I don't talk about headphones outside of Head-Fi. A few close friends know what they cost, but I don't make a big deal of it. I only tell when asked directly.

Music makes people happy. Better sounding music makes people happier.

Music is therapy. Better sounding music is more therapeutic.

When I hear my favorite music through my system, my mouth can't help but smile.

I have no problem justifying my listening room...to myself or anyone else.

if my GF actually found out the TRUE amount ive spent on my headphone rig shell eat me alive...and once shes had her fill, then shell call me crazy again.
