New AKG stuff: K141 & 240 Studio, HEARO 777 Quadra

AKG has introduced some new stuff on the IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung in Berlin): The K141 Studio and K240 Studio - both featuring Varimotion drivers with 55 Ohm impedance and a detachable cable - as well as the wireless surround headphone set HEARO 777 Quadra with integrated Dolby-Prologic- & Logic7-decoders. The German pricing: K141 Studio ~ 230 DM, K240 Studio ~ 270 DM and HEARO 777 Quadra ~ 545 DM (Deluxe Version with different color/case material and additional velour earpads ~ 625 DM). The stuff can be found on the German AKG site, which is www.akg-acoustics.de - I haven't checked the American/English site, yet, but I guess the German site should do for a first look.

Greetings from San Jose!

Manfred / lini

P.S.: With the new 55 Ohm drivers AKG seems to show mercy for portable users...

So... would that mean they completely reiintroduced the 240 phones? Aside from the impedance, do you think the sound'll be any better now?

massappeal: Well, yes, I'd think or at least hope so, because the Varimotion drivers were first introduced with the K40x/50x-series, which was/is quite good. But I'm going to order test samples soon (read: as soon as I'm back home in Munich...), then I'll let you know...

P.S.: Nevertheless, the automatic headbands on my old K240s had usually given up after ~ 2 1/2 years - I hope, they have improved the rubber strings, too...

Lini: before I ask about the headphones, I'd like to know why you don't set up your signature to be "greetings from munich! manfred/lini." Then you wouldn't have to type it in every time!

anyway, I'm pleased to hear that AKG's coming out with more phones. Are these headphones listed on their site yet? (now that's a stupid question, 'cause I'm going to check right after I post this.) From what I've heard so far I belive that their varimotion transducer has a lot of promise. I wonder how efficient these headphones are...

Neruda, lini currently is in San Jose! DUH!

And the new AKG Studio Monitors have a much lower impedance (55 ohms) than the current AKG Studio Monitors (600 ohms)! I may consider buying the K240S if it makes it to the U.S.! LOL !!!!

eagle_driver, two things: yes, lini is in San Francisco right now, but where is he most of the time? Don't think that thought didn't occur to me!And yes, I know the impedance as 55 ohms. But you know as well as I do that impedance has nothing to do with how loud it will get off a particular source. The sony ex70 is 16 ohms, but it isn't as easy to power as grados. The HD495 is 32 ohms, but it needs all sorts of power. So my questions stand.

EDIT: How could I be stupid enough to write San Hose instead of San Jose? How could I be stupid enough to write San Jose instead of San francisco?

Neruda: Well, according to the German AKG site the K240 Studio has +3 dB compared to the old K240 Monitor, but 91 dB/mW is still not much - but the K141 Studio should have 101 dB/mW (K401/501: 94 dB/mW), so that's most probably the AKG to choose for portable use.

Greetings from San Francisco!

Manfred / lini

P.S.: Mhmhmhm, greetings in a signature line... uhm... that's a bit unpersonal, I'd say... and maybe I just like to exchange greetings with grinnings from time to time... or I'm just old-fashioned... actually, I never thought about that before....
