Headroom Desktop Review in Stereophile

I just picked up the April 2006 edition of Stereophile and there is a lengthy review of the Headroom Maxxed Out Desktop Amp with PS. I haven't read the entire review but it seems to be very favorable. There is also a comparison to the Grace 902. Some more excellent exposure for our hobby and more importantly exposure for Tyll and Headroom. Congratulations!

I tried to search for another thread on the subject but search wasn't working so if there is one just add my post to the thread.

Yeah, the review was very favorable toward Headroom. I have never heard Grace m902 but I like my HR amps.

Wow, finally this sort of thing is starting to get noticed and picked up by mainstream publications, huh?

I may have to give that magazine a gander myself at that rate...

Way to go Headroom......I expect you guys couldn't be happier with that review! Stereophile absolutely just LOVED the unit..... It was also nice to see some measurements too to back up the subjective impressions.

I really hope this Stereophile piece for Headroom is the tip of a much larger iceburg, in general.

Well it seems that way... IIRC Stereophile's John Atkinson will be attending the Head-Fi National Meet, and Head-Fi has been mentioned in at least one issue already.

And so it begins...

Let's not forget that Ray Samuels has had a number of his products reviewed in Stereophile and The Absolute Sound.

Nothing new for Stereophile, they were reviewing Headroom gear back in 1994.

I honestly had no idea. That's mostly because this realm is still pretty new to me as well.

Good to know! (As a sidenote, I did go to Stereophile's website and did call up several headphone amp related reviews.)

Still.....

I think we are at a "tipping point" with regard to escalating awareness of the value of headphones.

I agree. It will be nice to see them rise from the accessory category to full fledge audio components. Congrats on your review. Well deserved. You have always provided excellent well engineered products.

I just got a Lehmann Black Cube Linear a few days ago. So far it doesn't even come close to my Headroom MICRO amp let alone the Desktop. I'm hoping the BCL just needs to break in, but boy do I miss my Headroom amp. Sure the BCL adds a little depth to the sound over the Headroom micro and the instruments seem a little bigger, but boy is the Lehmann SLOW compared to Headroom. I've never yawned so much listening to music as I have since I got the BCL. Viva HeadRoom!

HeadRoom desktop FTW!!!!!

As it has broken in, the BLC does surpass the Headroom micro amp in some areas (more depth to the soundfield, for example), but for its price boy does the micro give good value.
