, Well.....i just received my micro+ this morning and after finally finding a charger plug adapter i managed to get it up and running as i didn't know how much charge the batteries had in them...yadda....yadda....
Anyway, I've been lying on the couch for the best part of 3hrs doing listening tests using the A-B feature on my iriver and also getting a mate to switch the feed from the dap line out>micro out>ety's, to the dap headphone socket>ety's for blind comparison and i was going to report that i found the output of the micro appalling, the max volume out of the amp was very much poorer than sound level 20 from the headphone out socket of the iriver on a scale of 40, i just couldn't get this amp to really drive the ety's which i found very frustrating and was feeling a bit peeved off but then i noticed that the volume knob of the amp had a small notch which only indicated a position of 11am, this is as far as i had managed to turn it so far, it came up against so much resistance in the 11am position that i originally thought that was as far as it went, i sat and thought "that's not right?, a volume control should go all the way round (spinal tap went up to 11
) but i couldn't move it any further without fear of breaking it or so i thought.
I gave it a big twist in frustration more than anything and i felt a very positive click through the volume knob and it turned all the way round to the 5pm position, after quite a few further passes back and forward the potentiometer now has full smooth control from 7am through to 5pm.
What a doozy
, now i figured this out i'm going back to explore it properly over the next couple of days and will return with an unbiased report once i lose my prejudice about receiving a product with a sticky volume/potentiometer control, it is a rather nice piece of kit for the money though, but as i ordered and paid for a tomahawk in a moment of madness last night i figure this amp is a prelude to a financially unhealthy addiction.
Can you tell it's my first ever headphone amp?, is it really that obvious?.
