Poll: Favorite Film Scores?

I've recently gotten really into film soundtracks. Though modern instrumental music seems to have been pushed into the background in many cases, I think movie scores seem to have almost taken their place in terms of pop culture. So far I own a couple of them, mostly big names like Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer, and John Williams. I want to broaden out my tastes a bit so I figured you guys would have cool suggestions for film music. I'm a violin player and play in an orchestra so my tastes definitely lean towards the strings side. Here are some of my favorites as of now:

Hans Zimmer - Lion King (too bad he only did a couple tracks on it)
Hans Zimmer - Last Samurai
John Williams - Schindlers List
John Williams - Munich
Tan Dun & Yo-Yo Ma - Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

For strings:
"Gattaca"-Michael Nyman
"The Hours"-Philip Glass
--->both extraordinary, both must haves.

I cant seem to stop listening to the soundtrack to "Solaris" by Cliff Martinez. Its kinda like brian Eno meets Glass...very minimal, yet dark and layered-beautiful album.

Any my all time fave is "The Passion: The Last Tempatation of Christ" by Peter Gabriel. This album really strikes a chord with me; its more along the lines of World Music than straight classical. Essential nonetheless.

Eirch Wolfgang Korngold: almost anything. Kings Row, Captain Blood, The Seahawk and especially The Adventures of Robin Hood.

Franz Waxman: Peyton Place, Rebecca, Sunset Boulevard, and many more.

Bernard Herrmann: Vertigo, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Jane Eyre

Max Steiner: Gone With the Wind, King Kong, They Died with their Boots On

I love the soundtracks from the so-called Golden Age of film scores, although there are many fine ones of more recent vintage, too. Christopher Young writes in a very appealing style.

I've always loved the music of Erich Wolfgang Korngold from the time I first saw Errol Flynn in tights as Robin Hood on tv. Captain Blood, the Sea Hawk and all of those films just came to life because of Korngold's stirring music. Later, Dorothy Hamill won her Olympic gold skating to his music and he was famous all over again.

Movies:
Joe Hisaishi - Spirited Away & Princess Mononoke
Randy Edelman - Last of the Mohicans
John Barry - Dances with Wolves

Not Movies:
Ronan Hardiman - Lord of the Dance & Feet of Flames
Martin O' Donnell & Michael Salvatori - Halo 2

By the way, there are several good threads to be found on this topic by searching.

"The Motorcycle Diaries"
"The Pianist"
"Donnie Darko"
"The Hours"
"Last Temptation of Christ"
"Sling Blade"

For the most part, I don't buy soundtracks, but I listen to these regularly. None of these are what I'd consider typical movie soundtracks, with cues to match dialog or action sequences. I think they stand on their own quite well.

My tastes may be pedestrian, but I love Hans Zimmer's score from Titanic.
