Sharing the Bus

Anyone using an M-Audio Transit and a USB-powered hard drive simultaneously out of a laptop?

Back when I had a TBAAM, I noticed that whenever I plugged any other device into the USB while it was in there, it would "turn off"...basically the little tray icon which shows whether it is plugged in or not, was showing it as unplugged while another device was plugged-in. I was wondering why this would be and whether this would happen with any USB sound card/DAC? In particular, the M-Audio Transit. I keep my music on an external USB-powered hard drive and would be using them together simultaneously.

Thanks,
mjb

It probably happens because the HD you are using uses too much power. I always use HDs that use 115v from an outlet and never have that problem with any USB devices except my Ipod which gets power from the USB port.

The damned IPOD even locks up my computer sometimes.
