I just got a used LaRocco PPA (uses LaRocco Diamond Buffers) with 627 op-amps powered by an Elpac wallwart. I had been using the headphone output of my old Marantz 1060 and been generally pleased, but when comparing it to the PPA it seems just a bit muffled

I'm currently using a Hornet to drive my HD650. The Hornet drives my HD650 very well. It brings the performers closer to me by reducing the soundstage a little bit. I'd love to have a proper amp like the Headroom Desktop Amp, Headamp GS-1, Singlepower PPX SLAM or a RSA Raptor. Unfortunately, my current circumstances don't allow for a proper desktop/home amp. Perhaps when I go to university...

HeadRoom Micro-desktop module: really pretty good with 650

HeadRoom Home with Max DAC and stepped attenuator- great with 650 (currently in transit for new max module upgrade).

Headphone outs on Benchmark DAC1: Really very good with 650. The 650 can handle neutrality and/or analytical quite well.

RSA Raptor: Great with stock tubes. With a Mullard tube, the Raptor is a little too syrupy for Classical music. I actually prefer the AKG701. Of course, being able to tube roll is a plus and the Raptor is super with the 650 for Rock or Jazz.

I've used a lot of different amps with my 650/equinox, but my long term favorites continue to be the PPA with diamond buffers, and the Ear+HD.

Which between those two depends on what I'm listening to. Some recordings just sound nice on one than the other, but both amps perform vary well with the 650s.

Meanwhile, the HPA6S does very well with the 650, as well as it does with the K701 and the DT 880 / 2003.
