Well, I guess I'm not using an amp at all with them...they are balanced cabled and I'm listening to them right off the back of my Wadia 830. Digital volume control is cool.

Some said this couple is a match made in heaven, but after using it for a while, I'm thinking about getting an upgrade, or finding a way to add the balance output to the amp .

Of the home amps I own, the most synergystic tube amp is the Earmax Anniversary with 2 Amperex PQ 7308 Holland and 1 Bugle Boy 12AT7. Solid state is the Benchmark DAC1 (non USB version). Portable amp is the Pico w/DAC:.

"Ya gots ta have"... the whole set up... the de-foaming mods, the silver ICs, the silver cables (RAL's the best), as well as the right source (e.g. M24, Cal Audio, etc.), and right amp (e.g. DV332, etc). I can assure you with all of that the DV332 with the right tubes, and all of the above... transforms the HD650s to a much brighter, faster, clearer, more detailed set of phones.

But... even then... they're still a "wee bit darker" than the HD580/600s, or RS-1s, or AD2000s. If you've got to have that type of clarity from the HD650s... you're going to have to spend a lot... a lot... more money. Personally, I'd rather just "move on" to another set of phones to get there - a la those I've noted, or perhaps, the SR225s, modded Denons, or JVCs, or whatever. Though... I really think... that set up with the HD580/600s is "about as good as it gets."

Balanced Millett Maxx - though I seem to be the only one that really enjoys it... :-)

That said, the m³ and the various Wheatfields are also just outstanding.

I use the Little-Dot MKIVse, no silver, no tweaks, just great tubes and it is a wonderful match with the HD-650s.

Ibasso D1. Been thinking about joining the Little Dot familiy. Specifically LD MKIII. What enhancements/differences can i expect? I'll still be using my D1 as my DAC.

Headroom Micro Ultra Stack. It's a very effortless sound. If you have ever heard monstrous power behind a set of speakers, it's that sound quality that makes them seem like they could go on forever. That's what I get with the HD650's connected, it seems like they could go on forever. No other way to describe it.
