BURN IN TIME

It seems that everything I read about new gear has a burn in time. Is it true that (amps-headphones-cables-Redwine mods) all have to be old before they sound their best?

The opinions on this are very mixed.. I personally think burn in time holds true for most headphones. For sources, amps, interconnects, etc, I don't really think it holds very true.. However, use the search funtion if you really want to find out info. There are piles and piles of threads that have had this debate already..

Just bought the Blue Dragon cable with a new amp. Both recommended burn in time of about 40 hours. I know on my home sound equipment--speakers especially--required about 100 hrs burn in. Don't know the technicalities but go to some of the makes' sites and they can probably elaborate

Burn in on equipment but tube amps is psychological.

Show me any scientific tests that prove otherwise, and I'll take back my statement. PSB has already shown that ten years of breakin amounted to less than a fraction of a decibel differences.

Burn in is the listener getting used to the sound rather than changes in the sound occuring. It is also a popular excuse for why someone does not like the sound.
