Why sweat it? Just raise the roof (or lower the floor).

Anyone know of a cheaper price than $169 with free shipping at Buy.com? Thanks.

I think that's about the cheapest they come right now. At that price though, it's an absolute steal.

i'm going to have to - i'm debating putting my EQ back in there just for fun and looks, even tho it will degrade my chain a bit...

There doesn't seem to be any information on how works. In the pic I can see what looks like some balun's in there.

PS Audios Ultimate Outlets use both Tranzorbers and MOV's for protection. That sounds good to me. I had a MOV surge protector on my TV that failed at the moment of truth and probably had been worn down over the years.

Does anyone know what kind of protection the Monster Unit offers?

Not sure exactly what you mean by protection but to quote from Monster's site:

"Ultra—high 2775 joule rating provides full capacity surge protection."
"Protects coax lines used with cable TV, DBS, and DSS equipment from surge pulses."
"Dual Mode Protection provides audible and visual alarm for maximum protection and performance."
"$100,000 Connected Equipment Warranty."

Is that what you meant?

Whenever you see the word "Joule" rating, you can assume MOV's.
Bryston has some power conditioners without MOVs.
I have a few surge protectors with MOVs here also, and i want to switch to non-MOV units. I hear MOVs can possibly start a fire, and that the non-MOV units protect better, but im not a technician either. Still looks like a great deal for the Monster unit for only %169 or less though. Ive always wondered about those "Connection Warrantys" though. I got those warrantys on some of my conditioners here. I wish i could have made a claim when lightning struck my Ham Radio antenna and blew out some of my Ham Radio equipment and my Carver 2000 Reciever.
