ReCable question!

Hi guys,

I've seen a lot of great recable jobs around here for various headphones that claim great results. I got a pair of KSC75s and Grado SR60s that I think I will want to recable. The only problem is, I have no idea what components to use, total audio mod newbie here .

Do different headphones require different cables?
Does it depend on the source at all?

I sure these are pretty dumb questions for you smart audio guys, but I'm much more a computer guy so when it comes to wiring, I'll hook them up in whatever funky way, but have no idea what goes into the wires.

Thanks in advance guys!

Although I'm nota cable master hoepfully I can address some things.

1. Given that different cans have different connectors/assembly methods/methods, yes they have different cables (eg: you aren't going to be able to stick a cable for the 650 on a DT880). That said if you wanted a cable that was say 20 AWG teflon coated copper, for both you could do that.

2. Yes synergy is important as some cables may sound good with certain systems and poor with others and it goes beyond the source, but the cans, amp, etc..

quality of wire plays a role along with construction play a role in overall performance IMO.
cheers.

Thanks bud, but considering that I will be recabling the KSC-75s first. If they sound better (and I actually manage not to ruin them) I'll do the Grado SR60s, and my PortaPros, can I use same wiring for them? I heard the KSC-75s are pretty easy to work with, so I'll start with those.

I'm a really impulsive and determined person so I would just love to jump in there and start recabling the KSC-75s, but I just don't know what materials I'm going to need to make my own cables for them.

I'm pretty sure I have all the tools, exept that specific soder for better signal transfer as opposed to regular one.

To start, I will not be using a separate amp to drive the headphones, just regular amplified output. IPod Video, Logitech Z5300 headphone jack and just regular computer headphone jack.

So here is my question guys, what materials do I need to create the cables and where can I grab them? I'll probably need enough to recable 3 headphones with about 5' or 6' length cable each.

Thanks, I look forward to trying my luck with these!!!

Search through the DIY section. There is a lot of information there and will answer all of your questions.
