Oh remember, Eddie replies to emails before and after work, not during work, I have to wait patiently for his replies. Unless you call him ( I have not called him b4! )

Haha... I can read chinese but when when it comes to the chinese technical terms, I have no idea what it means :P

the clock upgrade costs got me nervous till i used the currency calcultor. one way or another it seems very hard to go wrong here. if all goes well i'll probably just get eddie to load it up with the upgrades, and ship it out to me. man, cool stuff.

about the clock upgrade: i couldn't follow, but perhaps it has something to do with the balanced outputs? or different channels? he seems to be saying you can get one, or more than one, but i can't quite understand.

i feel a bit like i'm having an amazing lunch for $2 in argentina

I really dont understand technically too about the clock upgrade. Y dont you ask eddie for more clarifications, cos when he replied me :

"Hi!
The clock set unit consist one occlitor 6.144MHZ is to clock the digital signal . The $280 is the cost of the whole set with consist one 50 ppm occlitor which without the adjustment knob on top.If you select one ppm occlitor (with adjustment knob on top) and that will be $100 extra means $380 -whole set.
The sound can easy disitinguish !
Thanks !"

it just looks alien to me! haha... I just went for the HK$380 upgrade... i guess better price = better sound

Drop Eddie a mail, maybe he can answer your questions.
yup; i asked just that (i hope).

i just get scared when i hear "adjustment knob" and i have no clue what i'm "adjusting" Lol

of course, if the full deal is only a $50 upgrade i'll just do it, but i sort of like to know what on earth i'm upgrading, then again.......as long as it sounds ......who cares? though i'm sure the EE elite will chime in in the morning

I also have a question about the modded Zhalou; if you order from Lawrence does it already comde modded, i.e. He does the upgrades?

Yes you can order the modded version straight from him.

no email responses yet; the confusion continues. need more info.

Man, I just ordered mine yesterday with the upgrades from Lawrence. If there is really a 200$ difference with Eddiefor essentially the same unit/upgrades, its really quite disturbing.

I just happened to find out that Lawrence(might be another Lawrence) is one of Eddie's old customers.

Quoted from Eddie:
"Hi!
Lawerence is one of my old customer and he sell lots dac-1.3 for me .Actually I have been quite busy since selling dac-1.3 .I always go to China to make PCB and buy IC ......."

Another quote:
".....Lawerence brought two set today with totaly upgraded .
...."

I think he's refering to the same Lawrence since both are based in HK, i may be wrong....

Please dont flame Lawrence as I feel they are just doing their businesses. They state the price, if you are happy, you buy from him (Who wants to buy something expensive when you know you can get it cheaper elsewhere?) Besides the prices Lawrence quote initially are those you guys feel are comfortable with it, or else you wouldnt buy from him. I just hope saying all these wont let you guys bombard Lawrence with the pricing thingy... If i knew this will happen I could have been a selfish jerk and let you guys pay more and not let you know about Eddie Wu at all.

Had I known of Eddie Wu earlier, I wouldn't have spent over 300 dollars on a DAC with no power supply upgrade and no clock upgrade. I could have bought a fully upgraded DAC from Mr. Wu for what, 200$? Maybe 250$ with shipping? Now I will have to buy the upgrade components from Mr. Wu and try to install them myself. So yes, I am pretty pissed off right now.

I just hope no one else makes the same mistake again.

Oh, and reading what you wrote, it appears to me that this Lawrence buys his DACs pre-upgraded from Mr. Wu and then sells them further on? I truly hope I'm mistaken here.
I wonder if Mr. Wu knows how much American and European head-fiers are actually paying for his DACs.

Well, in all honesty, at this point we still don't know:
1) How does Eddie's upgrades DAC sound? Is it really the same as Lawrence's, although it looks likely that its the same DAC.
2) Has anyone actually received the DAC from Eddie? A bunch of people had no problem getting theirs from Lawrence.

Here are the prices what I got from Lawrence:

-DAC is $180.
-op amp upgrade ( 1 pc ) metal DY2000 is $40, one OPA627 dual op amp assembly is $50 ( it improve the range of upper and lower frequency response ) .
-clock upgrade ( 1ppm ) is $70 ( Mark Levinson parts , Mark use 2ppm clock and my
top clock is 1ppm . It is provide a more frequency accuracy )
-power supply up grade is $80. ( produce stable sound stage , improve the
punch of the bass )
-2 pins to IEC AC adaptor is $15 ( can use HI End power cord )
Speedpost ( 2 days ) is $58.
TOTAL for FULL upgrade is $493.

I now plan to order one from Ed, thanks for the info.

at least one has gotten a zhaolu dac + upgraded headphone amp for the same prices as eddie is selling; perhaps that member would mention his circumstance, but i'll leave it up to him.

If there is such a huge difference in price from lawrence, I really dont care! Lawrence has provided great information and an awesome piece of equipment to me for a great price.

Plus the other fellow who is selling cheaper is going to charge an extra fee for building the modded version correct?

When I order the newest Zhalou whenever it gets released (1.5 or 2.0) I will buy from Lawrence again.

I can only say the assembly fee is pretty cheap (even after addition it's cheaper than Lawrence's, provided they are using the same parts), besides from my email correspond with Eddie Wu it seems like Lawrence(if he's the same Lawrence) gets the parts from Eddie.

Great for you, if you like Lawrence's services go for him. From what I know Eddie Wu has been great too regarding my queries about the Zhaolu, most important thing is that we enjoy the sound
