Clash of the titans: Benchmark DAC-1 vs. LeVry DA-10 vs. upgraded Zhalou DAC - Page 8

It is the same for me, I am thinking of buying this purely from this review.

Because of the low price, I am not that bothered, if it turns out to be very good then I've saved alot of money.

At this price point, I have about £200-odd to lose, and if it turns out well then I'm laughing

warning on that IEC, I bought two of them like 2 months ago. They dont really fit very well into the rear of the zhalou and it annoyed me, so im still using stock power cord (it didnt feel like a secure connection).

I'd definitely remove the headphone connection and disconnect the power from the headphone amp, which shares the same regulators as the analog section of the DAC. You'll notice that the DC wires are bundled with the AC wires. Separate and twist all pairs for a cleaner DC supply.
All the above can be done without touching the soldering iron!
Did anyone try this? I tried it on mine last night and it seemed to increase the dynamics a little bit. Everything seems to have a bit more snap to it. If anyone else tried it let us know what you think.

Zhaolu on HD-650

Not a good argument... The sonic differences were much more obvious on the speakers - on two very different systems.
The Zhaolu sounded fine on the HD-650 through two very different headphone amps...

Actually if you look at this thread

people have been raving about the zhalou since September.

Can anyone tell me how long after placing the order does Lawrence send the confirmation e-mail and ship the item?

In my case, confirmation came 20 minutes after payment, and shipment two days after.

He told me that it takes a day to make the DAC and another day to have it tested before he ships it out.I wonder if he gets it pre made or in parts from eddie?

can any of you guys answer....

hi. been reading the posts and all the info is great. thanks.

but can you tell me if Eddie or Laurence offer a DAC without the volume control. i have no need for it as i'm using an external amp. (or is there a button that bypasses it, like a 'Source Direct' type switch?) also what are the inputs for this DAC...? i don't suppose it has USB..?

The volume is only for it's built in headphone amp, the signal does not pass through the volume before exiting the analog outputs if you use it just as a DAC. Inputs: Toslink, coaxial.

no response back from lawrence on price hikes. i draw the clear conclusion that our lawrence-fears are realized

Also no confirmation for the order that I placed yesterday. I am starting to get really bad feeling in my stomach.

Thanks for the clarification. Your post was kind of hard to read, so I might have missed some specifics there. My point still stands about the burn in though. Makes a huge difference with every discrete design I've owned in the past.
