Got this email today from Jan...

Dear Mercuttio

Just wanted to let you know that the 32 Ohm versions of DT770/880/990 are available now!

Cheers

Jan

Sorry for the n00bish question, but outside of minimizing the need for an amp, and thereby making them more useable for a variety of portable players and such, what is the advantage of the lower impedance?

Thanks.

Oh-oh.

I'm getting the urge to pick up a pair of 880s to go along with my 770s...

Sigh.

Well there's also the possiblity that since these are new drivers for the line, they might sound different, possibly better, than the pre-existing variations (as did the 80-ohm version when it came out). At least that would be the crux of my interest in how these new Beyers turn out.

If only they were $150.

Yeah, I know. I really just wish there were more closed headphones in the higher price-bracket! I like the DT770 very much, but more options is ALWAYS better!

LOL.

If "ifs" and "buts" were candies and nuts, we'd all have a merry Christmas!

Did Jan comment on whether they sound different from 250ohm version?

I think they're bound to sound different. My SR325i sound quite different with an extra 73ohms and so do my PX100 and ER4P.
