I'll add another recommendation for the HD-25. I bought them on the recommendation of the Headroom person I talked with, and got them last Friday. They're my "bedphones," and work very well. The sound is satisfying. There are better headphones out there but none that combine, as others here have said, the isolation, sound quality, comfort and small size needed when listening in bed.

HD25-1

I purchased some HD25 cans last week. I have been very impressed so far. The SQ is great, construction is robust and they are almost comfortable. Thats the best I can say for any supraural phones. These I can wear. They actually fit someone with a humungous noggin like me.

The AKG K81DJ's are not even in the same league. I have both so I have a more than fair idea!

Now maybe for a cable mod!

NO DOUBT, the HD25-1's blow the K81DJ's away in every possible way, except of course, price

The recable takes the HD25-1's to a whole new level, making them really the killer portable can, IMO.

I own the HD25-1 and have listened to the HD25-SP. There is no chance that any amp could make up the difference between the two. Go with the 25-1, they're much better.

They’re virtually indestructible. I toss em in my backpack everyday without fear or worry.

With the velour pads, they start to approach something like comfort. They clamp pretty snug, but I’ll take the tradeoff for the isolation.

IMO, the hd25-1 is the undisputed champ in the portable/sealed/sound quality/light/rugged category. I keep trying to find something better sounding with the go-anywhere attitude of the hd25-1…but it’s still not out there, not that I’ve found anyway…

hrm, this thread is making me want to dig out my HD25s again. Since I got the E500s, the Senns haven't seen the light of day. Maybe I can get some of the old love back again .

somebody here said they were worried about looking silly with the HD25s. I'm considering buying them just because they look so sexy! sleek, black, just the right size, neckable...basically they make you look like a DJ. wearing them, you get automatic street cred. (credibility).

one more thing.

The sound quality, in my opinion, is remarkable. I'm very picky about a realistic spectrum, but at the same time, I love the emotional response that loud, crip bass give you....these cans provide the perfect compromise. I've spent ages A/B comparing these to other phones on the Bay Bloor Radio headphone wall (Toronto)...long enough for the employees to jeer at me in the distance (but I can't hear them!).

I currently own a pair of Senn HD280 pro, and love them, precisely because I've always thought they were so even-sounding and uncoloured, in addition to their detail. Not anymore. Compared to the HD25-1, it becomes noticeable that the reduced bass in the HD 280s extends too high, into the lower end of the vocal range. This makes the human voice sound just not-quite-right, and I presume the same for everything else. In contrast, the HD25-1s reproduce incredibly life-like mids, AND give you great bass response, AND are more detailed. (However, they are a little less comfortable and have a less impressive sound-stage).

Anyway, those qualities plus their portability, neckability, durability, attenuation and DJ sex-appeal make them the perfect cans for me. I've really got to get a pair.

What recable specifically? The HD650 cable?

GUH! I need to get a real job and buy me these 25-1's!! Ever since I listened to them in a store in Seattle, I miss them. They had a similar sound to my 7506's but with better detail, clean tight low bass and much more portable.

I start a temp job next week, $400 to help a friend dig and set fence posts around her property (farm/animal/tree type land)

But that is going to my Las Vegas Trip in April. mebby if I win lots-o-money in Vegas I'll get alot of head-fi stuff!

I think I'll go Pawnshopping there too, I find the best deals at Pawnshops! Vegas has got to have lots of them!

After a three year absence, the HD25-1's are back in the fold. Tried many, many cans in-between, open, closed, IEM, portable and unportable, and ultimately, I'm full circle.

They are not the best sounding I've heard, they aren't the most portable, they aren't the most comfortable, and aren't the best looking either, but they are the best compromise of all. Happy to have them once again!!! This time, they are here to stay...

Time for a recable
