Rufus Wainwright- any albums are good. Piano, often with other instruments. He does an amazing cover of Leonard Cohens "Hallelujah."

no one has mentioned Something Corporate yet???

They are a punk band but its all based around piano. They have quite a few really emotional sad songs combining lots of guitar and piano. I like North, but I think most fans prefer there first release, Leaving through the Window

I really like Aziza Mustafa Zadeh and the album "Always".

She's an extrordianary piano player and the music on the album differs from catchy fusion-like jazz like the title track to sad tracks like Crying Earth to upbeat tracks with vocals (she's from Azerjbadjan by the way) like A.J.D, Oh I didn't realize until now that this album really is simply fantastic !

I bet there's someone else who has heard of here. Anyways try it out, you won't be dissapointed!

Check this CD if you like Celtic music on piano:

Greenwoods by Paul Machlis

Machlis works with a small ensemble of fiddle, cello, pipes and woodwind, and delivers a highly polished collection of original Celtic melodies. The music is on the melancholic side, but never depressing: there is always an undercurrent of energy to move on.

Older solo albums by Machlis (like The Bright Field) are more traditional.
