Everyone talks about the treble coming alive...I don't want them any brighter! Plus I like my precious bass. It is already attenuated from my custom bent out headband (non-breaking method).
Once again, these can's are the $hit!

[though listening to my K601's last night made me realize something, the K81DJ can't perform miracles. Still they are great.]

just goes to show that this hobby is about individual tastes. i like my k81dj without the foam and nice and bright!

you're right about the k81dj not being giant killers but they sure are fun. imo, they're a great value for the price.

read this whole thread (took me a couple sittings...) and I think I will buy a pair. I am currently looking for a pair of headphones to play my drums with. I want to know if they are good canidates. but I dont want to clog this thread, so any comments directed --> here please.

I wonder tho, a lot of people own a pair, can someone take some pics of them on, off, being stretched, etc. How dorky do they really look? This wont be a selling point, but more of a curiosity. Thanks.

Ok, I'm at work so i can't see pics, so you'll have to tell me if this is really me wearing the cans in question. Don't tell me if I look dorky tho.

Hey Jahn, how do those cans feel while wearing glasses? Do they press up against the temples of your glasses in an uncomfortable way?

they definitely do until you bend that headband - then, no probs!

Alright. That's good news. I'll have to buy this after I recover from buying a 500GB HD and a Synology NAS. My Visa is whimpering in my wallet. Oh well.

Just an FYI for those looking to buy...

I just looked on ebay for this seller but there are no headphones listed.

However I did notice that they have a website called www.fplogistics.com.

The link to the k81dj on their website is incorrect but I'll provide the correct link here. http://www.fplogistics.com/akg/k81dj.html

It appears that you need to call (1-800-406-2446) or email (sales@fplogistics.com) to place an order.

acutally, they do have the k81dj (two actually) on ebay... (not to sound snobby or anything, I just found em yesterday and bookmarked them)

http://cgi.ebay.com/AKG-K81DJ-K-81-D...QQcmdZViewItem

A while back, when they sold the last they had listed, he put more up within the hour, so I think they have quite a few, they just aren't listing them in large quantities. Also the lowest people have been purchasing at is $55, so someone should try $50.

Mine might be going. I just cannot get them comfortable, and no amount of stretching is solving my biggest problem: they barely fit my head at setting 10. If anyone is interested in a basically brand new pair with about 120 hours of burn in on them already, shoot me a PM.
I just got mine and even with no burn-in, they sound amazing to me. Of course, I have nothing better to compare it to, but my input is worth something, right?

Definitely bassy out of the box, but I'll update as I listen more. Comfort is not bad for me, but I would agree that even at the max extensions on each side, the headphones don't give much breathing room. However, I've found that for me at least, they are rather comfortable if I wear them like behind-the-neck streetstyle headphones, except the headband is resting on my neck (angled downwards). It looks a bit dorky, but I think that if you have hair and have that awkward bump on the top of your head, it looks dorkier (my hair kind of sticks up, so it's very obvious).

I'll post pictures later for all of you people who are just curious as to what the packaging looks like and all the accessories and such. Stay tuned!

Rock out! \m/

P.S. summer in San Diego, California makes my ears hot with these on. Oh, and I purchased them from fascinationproductions on eBay with the infamous "$55 Offer" (but $59.26 for me because of tax in California) on Friday, July 14, and received them today via USPS Priority Mail (Tuesday, July 18). It was well packed and delivered fast, and I highly recommend this seller.

Just to touch base again with this thread. I am cointinuing to enjoying these headphones while at work. They are small, unobtrusive, and closed with a very fine sound presentation.

i had a similar problem at the beginning of this thread, where i kept stretching them out and they would never get comfortable enough for me. currently i'm on my second pair and this time around, i did the alternate stretching method (or squeezing method) and they've much more comfortable now. additionally they don't need to be extended full length to fit correctly.
