Official K-81 DJ thread - Page 50

Ok, I have been reading about this k81 dj for a while now and it is just waaay too good. Thus my perchase is impending. However I just cant wait and I happen to be at a location where I cannot really recieve mail easily.

So, I figure I would simply buy from a vendor here in new york city. However after much searching and a few disappointing visits to what seemed to be promising audio locations I can't seem to locate any here.

Can any of you folk out there lend a hand in getting these great cans?? It would be greatly appreciated. Or am I (ALAS!!) doomed to wait to order them online in the months ahead.

Anywhere, anybourough...ummm any weekend.

thanks!

Are the adjustable bands on the side made from metal? I'm worried that they may break.

How sturdy are the hinges?

How "closed" do these sound? I enjoy the MS-1 sound over my HD280's.
They have better top and bottom end extension than the KSC75. In fact they do everything better than both the KSC75 and 35 IMO. I don't think they are comparible, because the K81DJ simply outclasses the KSC's (don't get me wrong, I like my KSC35 a lot).

The band is almost completely plastic. The adjustable parts are plastic. The metal part is only on the top, which helps it hold the new shape, once you fix them by bending them for comfort.

The hinges seem to take some stress very well. Great design.

The only other closed can I have owned were the HD-202. This is a far superior can. I always thought closed cans sounded closed (like the HD-202). These sound nothing like them. I think they sound very similar to open cans.

As VR6ofPain would probably concer, the K81DJ's can be considered a poor mans version of the K601's. At least that's been my findings thus far. Excellent cans (closed or no) for the money.

The more I listen, the more I enjojoy my K81DJ's. My only other AKG is the modded K340 and I can say that these babies are close in sound signature. Of course K340's soundstage, detail, control over the bass is better than K81DJ, but these relatively cheap, portable, closed cans must be number 1 headphone who is looking for a portable, closed, and wide soundstaging can to complement his/her full sized AKG's. I did not try foam removal yet. Still waiting for burnin. Just streched the headband for better comfort.

I'd probably rather listen to the K81.

Well I would concur.

Have you listened to a broken in (>100 hours) K601 for an extended period of time?
People...all yall. Im dissapointed. Especially MarkL. The k81djs are basically good. Youve posed them to be too much though. I dare anyone to compare them even to a broken in hd555! No bias here. My ony bias is the comparison to live instruments!!! Try Miles Davis... No WaY!!! Baaaazuuuu!!! In spanish "Basura"! The k81dj is a great portable headphone but realistic sounding, it is not. Take this as gospel ... you will thank me. Newbies will love these but the experienced people shouldn't even give a damn about this thread!

Are the r10s this ordinary MarkL? Or is this just hype because you loved these k81djs so much as a workout headphone?

Hmm...a different opinion, intriguing. Care to explain how it doesn't sound "natural" Donunus? How much burn in have you gotten on it so far and have you tried removing the pads?

My question exactly. (Given his response, I suspect not. But I'll let him answer for sure.)

That said, there will be times when one is preferable over the other. But if I had to pick just one (and thank goodness I don't), it'd be the K601's in a heartbeat.

All youse guys are arse-holes. I just found a place a few blocks from work who are going to be getting stock of these babies any day now, for $79 CDN.

I'm going to crack sooner or later. Time to sell off my Eggos, perhaps.

Not the K601, but the K701. (Maybe you guys missed my "controversial" impressions thread on them? I put 450 hours on them. In the end I liked them, fine, though I didn't think I would at first. But when pressed, I'd probably rather listen to the K81, but it's really a toss-up for me.).

I've still got the scars from my public stoning for posting my honest impressions. How dare I speak ill of the then flavor of the month!

Markl - no public lashing here. Sorry if it appeared that way. Just wanted affirmation that you'd heard the K601's (or in your case, the K701's - I'd forgotten your posting. My mistake). The K81DJ's are fun to listen to. All you need is re-read my posting on this thread to understand that. For times I want to listen without disturbing, or being disturbed, the K81DJ's are the only cans I reach for right now. But, if I want to hear the best of my music, I'll grab the K601's first.

No slight intended to either you or the K81DJ's. We OK?

Of course!
