i wonder how they compare to the HD 25-1's

Big D, are you running these amped or unamped, and from what source?
Have you been listening to them on-the-go, or just in the comfort of your own home?

I'm interested to know how they sound out and about in a portable situation also what music type they're best with -

I'm with murrmax on this one. I am on the bus constantly, and am wondering how much they isolate. If someone was on their cell phone next to you on the bus and you were playing your music, would you be able to hear them?

I lack the intimacy of music when my rig cannot compete with noises outside.

I do not listen to anything with too much base. I am not a fan of bloated bass at all. Will the extra bass get annoying over time?

any help would be appreciated as there seems to be a lot of positive talk regarding these cans.

As I said before, the main issue is the long cable (this wasn't made apparently with portability in mind). I've found what I hope will be a solution to this issue with the smartwrap. For now, I stuff the excess cable into my pocket. They're slightly large-ish, so you will risk a little appearance of dorkitude walking down the street.


As I said earlier, appreciably more isolation than the PX200 (which isn't saying much as those phones barely isolate at all). But if you are looking to exist in a "Cone of Silence" no way are they going to provide that, not even close. You're probably better off with IEMs if you want that.

This is relative, too much to one idividual is not enough to another. This can always be adjusted with EQ if you are using a DAP.

Just got my Fedex delivery and have set them to burn in. I listened for a little bit and they seemed really well-balanced. The one thing I feared - serious head clamping - does not seem to be a problem.

I'm surprised at how small these are. From the pics at HeadRoom they looked big, clunky like the mammoth (head crushing) HD280. Glad they're not! I think they would look fine as portables, but yeah, the cord length is a real nuisance.

My son is playing "Worms 3D" and talking/yelling at the screen, and I can hear him even with the music playing at about 60% volume. I wouldn't recommend these for serious isolation.

I bought it in a shop nearby, so unfortunately I can't be of use here.

Unmistakeably from the sound -- being it much finer to my ears (besides a little differently balanced) than my 2 older PX100's (which both sounded identical btw).

I asked Jorge at HeadRoom if they were planning an A/B with the HD25-1 anytime, and he said no, but if they get enough requests they might do it. His opinion is the HD-25-1 still beats out the K81DJ for clearer extension on lows/highs, better detail on mids...but in an A/B with the HD-25-SP, they AKG has a more open soundstage and better price, so it gets the nod.

I'll chime in again. I love 'em so much they've become my bedtime cans. It usually takes me 1/2 hour or longer to fall asleep, and it's now so nice to lie there with the comfiness on my ears and listen to some high-quality Chopin...

Might I just add that piano music sounds stellar on these? As if I'm lying on the piano!
