too new to have sensitive ears, but I was thinking of going for the ms-1. and (don't know why) went for the AKG K240s at $80. will these cans be good for jazz, alt./classic rock? did I make a wrong choice?
Some people like the sound of the 240, personally I think they are better headphones for the money but if you enjoy them that's all that matters.

Definitely should be good for rock, don't know about Jazz however.

Second-guessing your headphone purchase before they're even delivered? Congratulations! You have a VERY bright future here at Head-Fi.

The K240S is a good can for the money, but it is recessed in the high frequencies and has bass response that's a bit flabby. It's not everyone's cup of tea. The best way for you to find out to whether or not you've made a mistake is to listen to it for yousrself. If you're happy then it's a done deal. If you're not, send 'em back or sell 'em here and try the MS1. They're VERY different headphones.

Boy, I feel SOOOOO much better now.

I found a better home for my former pair. Their sonic attributes were deficient relative to my standards of fidelity. Indubitably my good man.

Cheers

Geeze guys, why are you making him second guess himself even more? I'm going to buy some AKG k240s soon, they seem to be the 'phones for me. If I don't like them, I'll take advantage of TTVJ's excellent return policy, but I think I'm gunna love them. Also, they seem to have great modding potential.

Hey, that's just me. My dad has a pair, now, and he he love 'em.

Good point. I've bought a ton of stuff I ended up selling because it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. No big deal. That's what we're all doing here: Buying and trying, buying and trying.

I love them, but I bought them because I knew exactly what they were: a feel-good and groovy headphone. Buying them for serious analytical listening is a mistake. They add a fun "kick" to most recordings, and the recessed high end makes it easier to listen to overly bright material. Though I haven't heard MS1s, I feel the K240s are much better than the SR60s, for what it's worth.

akg k240s are nice headphones. They were sold to me as a alternative to the Grado SR60's and I do have the Grado SR60's as well. The Akg's are just more comfortable to wear and listen to and have a good fun sound. They are a step under MS1's which I also have Which are more analytical but have that fun Grado Sound. Just a little more tame.

But I could not stop there I also have higher end Can's now as well. Oh the AKG's sound better amped.

Not a wise choice if you didn't demo them first. You run the risk of being underwhelmed. I happen to like them. But They do have their flaws, none of which I hold too high on my list of priorities.
