mmm, shouldn't 600ohm work better in OTL mode? why do they struggle?

Interresting reading.

I like the looks of the ASL OTL MkIII amp.
And reading the review earlier in this thread, makes me want this amp

But the question is:
Would it drive mine AKG 701 properly??
I`m afraid of to low gain.......
Not that I`m playing very loud, but I want to have some to go on.

Just some days ago, i tried the 701`s together with X Can v3, and the gain suites me.

I live in Norway, and i have not found any dealers here.
Maybe i must look for it in used condition.....?

In transformer mode, it drives my K701's great.

This baby is a great piece of hardware and the more I listen the more I love it.

Hey guys, took your advice and got my hands on a HD580.

Gonna have a listen to it once it gets here. Can't wait. With all this talk about synergy, I'm really looking forward to what this thing can do.

Er...does anyone mind that fact that I keep digging up this thread?

Oh, also, if your source has a decent output. I think it should be able to drive the K701. It's got no problems driving both my RS1 and SR80 at the same time...with more than enough volume. HAHA...

I don't use my MG Head in OTL mode anymore - I use it as a pre-amp in T mode, and drive the headphone direct from the main out. It is GREAT and equally so in OTL mode (although this is not convenient to use often in my system due to annoying buzz when disconnecting wires... argh.)

WOW! ASL MG Head + HD580 = Match in Heaven!

Synergy, I'm a believer! OTL mode was indeed louder than transformer with the 580, this is now verified.

Question regarding the two inputs/outputs - how do they work? Is there a way to switch between inputs, and do the headphones have to be similar in impedance to drive two at the same time?

It's nice to see this great amp being rediscovered.

X 2 - I've had mine (original version) for years (repaired to get rid of hum) and they mate wonderfully with my HD600/Cardas. Make me want to brush the dust off the old Senns for that lush musical experience

Glad to see that my choice is not going to misguided... now can someone answer my question? :P

The amp is still 2 weeks of transit away from me, and I'm already buying tubes for it! HELP!
