Lavry Black Balanced Out?

From the posts I've read, I've gotten very confused about the balanced out of the Lavry Black. I gathered that the volume control affects it--does that mean that it isn't a true line out? If that's the case, does it go through the built-in amp?

The balanced output levels are controlled with the volume. The volume control is a digitally controlled resistor network, so it is basically the same as a stepped attenuator. Being that there is no potentiometer, there are no issues like channel imbalance at low volumes. The volume controls both the headphone amp and the XLR outs, though as far as I know the headphone amp circuit is different than the line out circuit.
