HE60????! Why?

Just wondering,

Why does the headband pad flake like crazy after a while? If I rub it a little it falls off, as can be seen in the last pic.

What will keep it from happening? I bought the cans second hand, and when I started to use it the headband pad started flaking. I have a new headband coming on the way, and I want to prevent this in the future.

Here are pictures:

The vinyl covered pad is a piece of crap. There is nothing you can do to stop the flaking. My method: Save a fresh HE-60 headband pad for resale purposes and install an HD-650 headband pad which is a direct replacement. The HD650 headband pad is not only more durable but more comfortable as well.

I haven't had any issues with my headband.

wow, I love Sennheiser to death and I am thoroughly dissapointed about the build quality of these. Sennheiser definitely needs to step it up a notch, these and the HE90s are my dream cans.

Ozone destroys plastic and rubber among other things.

When did production cease on the HE60’s? They’re getting old.

I know certain types of Dry Suits deteriorate whether they are used or not due to exposure to the atmosphere.

Does the HE90 headband fit the HE60’s? The HE90 headband is leather.

You don't need the whole headband, just the pad. You should give the HD-650 pad a try, its only $7.50. It looks stock when its on your head.

The build quality is fine. It's only the vinyl headband pad that is susceptible to flaking.
