Grado SR225 Appreciation Thread - Page 24

Just picked up a pair of sr225 this last week, really enjoying them but look for a new amp/dac combo to drive them. Any of you use a HiFiMAN ef2? Would like to get an intro into tubes, and this sounds like a good amp at a great pricepoint. Any other suggestions?

Just got my SR225i today and am loving them. They sound very close to SR325is, but much lighter and therefore more comfortable. I find that the cups on my SR325is tend to slip down the posts over time too, because of the weight. I'm sure you Grado fans are already well versed in these kinds of issues, but I'm new to them.

Probably an ignorant question, but is the world divided into SR325 types and SR225 types?

bump parent. I have the same n00b question regarding entry-level tubes amp + dac collaborating on the SR225i. Team 225?

I heard the Little Dot I+ is a great match for the SR225i (and other Grado models). It's around $100 (with the stock tubes, you should upgrade for much better performance) and is great for low-independance headphones.

I just bought one of these with the 414 pads, i hope they are great and make me happy :[

They sound less bright than the SR325is to me. The 225s are great phones. I am tempted to get a pair with a shorter cable.

The only gripe I have with these cans is comfort: I wear eyeglasses and these cans press my ears against the stem, making my ears sore.

Otherwise, I love them: I like the retro look a lot and just love the sound they produce; I use them with tube or hybrid amps and they sound the give out is just so rich and thick! I wear them until my pinnae bleed and my head aches !

Could someone compare these to the Ultrasone Pro 750s? I am not fond of the 750s sound at all.

i love my 225I and am now looking for a new amp to bring out the true potential of them.

Just ordered a pair with a custom 4 foot cable and 1/8 plug. They will be my open portable cans, replacing my SR60i.

So after being really into my 225i's for a while, I got kind of tired of them and went back to my HD555s for a few months. I was convinced that I preferred the 555s, and I was about to sell both of them and move up to a lone pair of hd600s -- I decided to give the 225s another go around, and I've been sitting here listening to LCD Soundsystem this morning. I forgot how great these can sound. Why oh why can't they be a bit more comfortable on the ear? I think I might go ahead and live with it, as these are as hi-fi a sound as I've heard in my limited experience.

Also, definitely amp these things up if you can guys. They sound great unamped, but they sound worlds better after being amped. Cannot stress that enough. I run them out of an integrated, and they sound great.

Ive had mine for about 2 weeks and I enjoy them more than any pair I own due to their forwardness. The 414 reverse quarter mod made a world of difference in comfort.

THE ONLY THING I DISLIKE about the grado is that they are made of a plastic material. I expected something more than that. But they are still awesome.

I really want to re-cable my 225's but don't want to ruin the sound. I've seen some recommendations to get the Grado extension cable and use that since it supposed to be the same cable used in the higher end Grado's. Any opinions on cable for the 225's? I would actually like them to be a bit brighter!
