Sometimes I wonder if head-fi is just one big contest on how to spend the most money.

Lose your wallet. Do not try to find your wallet. Cancel all your bank accounts and credit cards. Become a monk or a recluse. Your life will never be the same if you continue here.

Welcome!

Well, I just want to add another thing to the welcome message.
Remember, whenever you ask opinions on the forum, that they are relative. Everyone has different tastes, and so our opinions can be different. The most important is for YOU to decide what you are really looking for, and spend your money wisely. This is a very expensive hobby, so it's important that you think through all the buys you make, so that you don't regret spending your money.

That said: welcome to head-fi and, well, you know the rest

How old are you Joseph? If you're below 18, your parents need to sign a consent form. Head-fi takes no responsibility of your impending poverty.

I know two grand seems like a lot but it seriously isn't, it'll go by faster than you think. The first time my friend told me that he spent $380 on a used pair of W100s I thought he was crazy and then I was even more shocked that he spent $100 on a portable amp. Amp? Who needs an amp? Ha! I just spent almost $2K on the Headroom Desktop Amp w Max Dac, Max Module, & stepped attenuator and the DPS. The point of this story? Money might not grow on trees but it sure flows like water out of my wallet and yours as well, especially if you stay on this site.

Anyways, welcome and I hope you enjoy your stay. BTW, I don't regret any of my purchases since I started reading head-fi. This place will only make you love music even more!

What is that?

Some ri-di-cu-lous-ly priced setup?

Oh, and I'm over 18

They are the Sennheiser Orpheus' with amp. I think you can get if for $15,000 or so. I'm not sure because I can't afford it so haven't done a real search.
