Count me in as a YELLO fanatic! Absolutely love them, aways have always will. Listening to Pocket Universe at the moment after spending most of the night listening to my old favourites Flag, One Second, Stella, Zebra and Baby.

What's your favourite YELLO album of all time?

You Gotta Say Yes to Another Excess

I've checked out a few other albums, but they didn't really stick with me. Reminds me at times of Ultravox. Can't stress enough how much they influenced dance music.

Anything you would recommend to me?

IMO the "best" YELLO you can own is everything they did "after" you gotta say yes to another excess.... they've come on leaps and bounds and are constantly evolving into something different.

I urge you to listen to "Pocket Universe", "one Second", "Flag", "Zebra.... in fact..... listen to all of them you won't be disappointed. Their latest album is "The Eye" and I use it as one of my reference recordings.... not their best album ever but oh it's good and it's YELLO as they are in 2003.

The YELLO website has a few samples you can listen to so get your 'phones on and pop in for a listen.... these two guys are the godfathers of Techno, absolutely zany and genius all mixed into one nice package.

oooooooooh YELLOOOOOOOOOO!

Here's their site have a good scout round and listen to some of the samples, you will not be disappointed

Actually, I just picked up Stella and One Second (just finished listening to "The Rhythm Divine")...sublime. Good stuff. One of my "blank check" bands -- will get anything by them that they put out. Under the recommendation of someone (here? I think), I went back and relistened to The Eye and Pocket Universe, and even those "lesser" albums are superior to most carp I hear on the radio.

I was really big into 'eurowave' and synthpop in the 80s, but never did get into Yello. Then again, I was more into the mid to late 80s club stuff ('84-'89), the earlier stuff didn't do much for me; Yello fits more into that early category, I think. It's possible I could get into them now though, will have to see if I can beg/borrow a few CDs.

I'm having a bit of a YELLO "fest" at the moment and just picked up the remaster of "solid pleasure" off ebay for an incredible £2 (it was sealed too!) Boris Blank has remastered most of their catalogue (last year / 2005) and the sound quality is just fantastic.. I must buy the rest of the remastered series, I know it means I'll double up on all of my albums but what the hell I love these guys quirkiness, there is just nobody out there as fresh and different as YELLO and the recording quality of some of their later albums is second to none IMO.

The Eye is their most disappointing work but, even then, there are a couple of tracks on it that justify its existence and the recording / engineering quality is just first class throughout.... those buzzes and "artefacts" that run the entire album are just soooo good from a technical standpoint.

Of the early work I'd recommend "solid pleasure" but really only if you're a hardcore fan, it's amazing that these guys were producing that sort of sound way back in 1980!

Of the more recent stuff "pocket Universe" and "Zebra" are two excellent albums and the midway stuff such as "one second" "Flag" "Baby" etc. just cannot be overlooked IMO.... in fact, NONE of their work can be overloooked, it's all fantastic and I never tire of their zany lyrics or rich electro tapestry.

My most prized YELLO album has to be "The CD single Collection" number 2659 out of 3000 limited edition (windsong international) superb master recordings, well worth getting if you can source a box set.

I actually have most of those singles, so I couldn't justify getting that box set -- but didn't they put out the greatest singles? I love all those mixes and b-sides.

Flamin brilliant stuff! tied up, tied up, tied up...... whoah, great stuff. All remastered by Boris Blank last year, well worth picking them up he's made the recordings sound "even" better!

I have always loved their early material.....I met Dieter Meier back in 1982...cool guy.

Been a Yello fan since 1985 (nothing to do with Ferris Bueller, either)! I generally prefer the earlier stuff, but it's all pretty darn good.

One of their best recordings is Yello: Live at the Roxy - 12" cut w/80's debutante Diane Brill making the intro speech

Never released to CD as far as I know. A short version of the track is playable on Rhapsody. Search for The Roxy Cut and give it a spin. It should be on the "If You Can't Please Yourself" compilation album. Betcha like it.

There's a small portion of it on 1980-1985: The New Mix in One Go.

NP: "The Rhythm Divine"
