There was a subwoofer in there, mauahahaha! The TEKServe guys were like "what the heck do you have in that bag???"

But the mids and highs were mudsville- they need to improve the tweeter in that chair. The DT770 still wins in that category over the Egg at least
They stopped carrying them alltogether? They only had overpriced SR80s last I was there... punks. Is it just me or is Tekserv the damned sassiest place in the universe? I wanted to try the HD201 there a while ago, and the chick told me that I couldn't use my iPod, but the little Bose thing they had in the counter was "exactly the same" and that it was "using mp3s." I tried to explain that it was a little different, very politely, but she just rolled her eyes and stopped talking to me!

So, in your opinion, will a GoVibe Mk4 AD8397 running on 12V be sufficient to power 770/250's? What about the 880/250 or 990/250?

Thanks

personally I discovered that there is something special between beyerdynamic and tube amps. Maybe a millet or something like that?
I don't have much experience with SS amps so I couldn't give a valid opinion on their synergies.

Yes, a well powered 8397 based amp will have no problems with the 770/250s

I presume same goes for 880/990 250?

Thanks.

Is it safe to assume that powering these with a Fiio E11 would be a futile endeavor?

My suggestion is: sell DT770, and get Denon D2K, which known for great subbass reproduction.

The crazy bass on DT770 is probably an overpowered midbass (100hz and so), thats why everyone describe it as "BOOOOOM", because its sound like that.

Teh subbass, which OP wants, is not about BOOOOM stuff. It's about feeling sound pressure of lowest frequencies on your head. It's more enjoyable/awesome/[insert superlative here] experience, while booming is just annoying.

No, the DT770 is much more sub-bass, particularly around 20-60hz, than mid-bass (something like the Denon D1100 or Ultrasone HFI-580).  The D2000 is certainly a great alternative though, I'll probably pick up a D5000 within the next few months.

An E11 is fine to power the DT770 250-ohm.  As with most headphones that benefit from amping, it will scale up with higher power amps, but the E11 is a fairly powerful little amp.
