There are two distinct price ranges as I see it:

1. DIY - probably around $125 ish...

2. Built by someone else - hard to tell really, probably more in the neighborhood of $200.

Both of these could also vary quite a bit depending on what power suppply, jacks, case, knob etc. are chosen by the builder/owner/designer.

HTH,

Nate

I preferred my Pimeta to my Gilmore Lite - but I love my M3 most of all

you're looking at about $150 for a basic wallpowered pimeta including elpac psu.

He said he prefers the Pimeta, not that the Pimeta is "better." Probably an issue of sound signature or synergy.

It should be though... discrete is simpler with less stuff in the signal path.

Well to me, yes, I liked it more, whether it is technically better or worse is neither here nor there, I just liked it better so for me it was better, wouldnt life be boring if we all thought the same

As was discussed in great detail before in a thread that you participated in this an inappropriate generalization. I think that the only rule in play here is there is no hard and fast rule about which would be more transparent, discrete or opamp based.

Depends if you believe in minimalism or not. If so, then as a general case most discrete amps should be more transparent than most opamp-based amps simply because they are electrically "simpler." But I agree that it probably depends on the amp in question.

yea once you get into the ~$200 range the Schiit asgard is a possibility, which is hard to beat considering it is a discrete ssa.
