Another Purchase AKG K 701's

I purchased a set of Sennheiser HD 600's a little over a week ago. They are my first set of Headphones. I'm extremely happy with my 600's, but got to wondering just how good they really are compared to others since I haven't heard any others.

Well now I will find out. I just purchased the AKG K 701's, and Sennheiser PX 100's.

I think I have joined the Headphone Phenomenon.

Wow, you're taking this hobby really serious eh? Less than one month and you'll have more heaphones than me. I also ordered my K 701 from HeadRoom. What are you going to amp them with?

I'm using all my headphones for music and movie's with my HT system. I will not be using them with portable items. My receiver is a Denon 4806. I've been trying to find out if it has enough juice without using an Amp. I have been unable to find out.

While it may drive them to sufficient volume, it won't bring out the best in either of your headphones. A good amp would be a big improvement in sound quality.

Amazing, An amp power'd by a 9 volt battery will power my headphones better then a $3500 receiver.

Your receiver will power them fine, but often, the receiver's headphone jack may not sound as good.

The 600's are my favorite headphone but I seem to like the AKG 701 equally well. In fact, the AKG 701 may very well end up my favorite in the long run.

Are you using an AMP? Which one? Why?

Am I using an amp? Obviously you are a newb.

I have seven Singlepower tube amps and a SS headamp GS-1. Why? More of everything; transparency, clarity, bass power, soundstage size and depth, dynamics, resolution of detail and all this comes with more refinement.

Tube amps + =

Not the only one. I bought I bought 3 headphones within a timespan of 4 months

Headroom's advertisement shows the AKG 701 amped direct from an Ipod. Wonder how good will it sound

So your using the HeadAmp GS-1 as a Pre-Amp. Would you us it as an Amp by itself?

I use the GS-1 for both duties. The GS-1 drives a Monarchy sm-70 pro power amplifier which in turn drives my speakers ..... and as a headamp. My Singlepowers are all dedicated headphone amps.

Wow, the Singlepower is $949 for the base unit. I e-mailed Mikhail Rotenberg at Singlepower last night. And the GS-1 is $750. I only paid $229 for the Sennheisers and $286 for the AKGs.
Don't the same principle apply for headphones as main HT systems. You put the money into the Speakers (Can's) and 50% of that budget you spend on your gear Receiver, Pre/Pro Amp (Can Amp)?

What about pro-audio headphone amps, like the Rane HC 4? $199

Thanks for taking your time to answer.
