Got my Senn HD590 - Page 2

Thanks guys for all the comments. I used to own the HD600 and think I like the 590s better. I don't have the 600s for comparison anymore, but from what I remember they were just a little too laid back for my taste. I think the bass on the 590 goes very deep. The only thing is that it is a little loose and not really that tight. EQ? Are you kidding? I haven't used an EQ in years.

i find my senn HD600s (very close to 580), to very flat overall, but if anything shaped like _--_; slight roll off of deep bass and upper treble, strong midrange.
I don't know if I'd call the 600s treble "rolled off" so much as "not Grado"

As for bass, I've mentioned this elsewhere and I'll mention it here -- in my experience, the bass on the 58880s and 600s is highly dependent on amplification. Out of a standard headphone jack they have no bass at all. Out of an X-CANv2 they had pretty good bass. Out of a Max they have amazing bass.

This is quite true, you just don't get strong, deep bass out of 580s w/o good amplification. However, I would call the 580s treble somewhat rolled-off.

And yet you feel the 580s/600s are rolled off in the bass...

yep, because i happen to have another pair of headphones with a deeper, tighter, more detailed bass response

OK, so compared to a set of phones with amazing, incredible bass response, the 600s are a bit rolled off My point was just that in the grand scheme of good headphones, the 600s are one of the best, and are far from what someone would term "rolled off" in the bass. Fair enough?

ok I agree

the Sennheiser HD-600's are the most balanced headphones overall, they do everything very well...

...and there was peace and joy in the world.

until the 590 came along

Great choice. The HD590 are great headphones, yes, bright, quite bright actually, but that doesn't mean they will sound bad with your music. In fact, I have been very suprised with them, and I wonder why many people say they stink. (all blind with the 580 and 600 I guess).

I'm pretty happy with my Sony CD3000 now, which kick 590 butt...will stick to them for quite some time, I suspect... but I'm still a 590 fan. IMHO, great headphones, very detailed (and no, that's NOT just because they're bright), cheap, and much easier to drive than the 600.

I agree, the 590 are very nice. I prefer it over the 580. The 580 seems abit dull.
