By the way, have you heard the audio technica ad2000? I wonder what you will think of those against your favorites
My previous post you quoted was not written well - I have revised it to correct it as follows:.

The 650 with Cardas cable has too much coloration, and less clarity, compared to the HD600 with Cardas cable.

The K701 lacks the 3-D imaging of the SA5000, but the K701 has more tone body than the SA5000, but less detail and less 3-D imaging. The SA5000 is also bright. The K701 does not have the etched 3-D imaging of either the SA5000 or the HD 600.

I rate them now as:

1. HD600 (stock 600 or 650 cable has some glare and lean tone body though - these problems are ovecome with the Cardas cable).

2. K701 or HD650

3. SA 5000 (love the detail and imaging though)

My comments pertain to my headphone system with the Bada PH12 using the most realistic and high resolution tube combo: two Chinese 6SN7 type tubes in back and in front one Ken Rad GT (must have staggered plates like the VT231 GT version has - the even plates models are actually GE GT tubes and not Ken Rads though labeled as Ken Rad).

I have never heard the Audio Technica higher end models. Some people really love them, however.

Double post!

I was reading this thread to see how people felt about the SA5k vs. the K701, but it devolved into an argument over the merits of the SA5k, with barely any discussion of the K701.

Nothing personal, but I always love reading such absolute statements in old threads, checking the user's signature, and discovering s/he replaced the BESTESTHEADPHONEEVER with something else. It really drives home how fickle opinions can be, no matter how sure folks seem of themselves at the time. :O)

That's because akwok replaced it with HE90. He then sold HE90 and moved onto speakers. Don't know what he is up to now.

SA5000 is way better than K701 to my ears. I own two SA5000's and sold my brand new K701 two years ago.

I can't and won't say the SA5000 are the best cans period - that is to be determined by each listener based on their preferences for the sound, their musical tastes and their equipment.

I will, however, say the SA5000 is the nearest to 'stats I have heard from a dynamic can in terms of speed and very close in terms of resolution.

will the sa5000 need a amp to make it sound.
for akg k701 definate need amp to make it sound. without the amp it cant compare to a se530.

looks like the OP saved the k701 (and hd600) and sold the sa5000

I guess this is what happens when you quote something 2 years out of context. I was clearly being sarcastic, and I'm not really sure how you missed that on your readthrough.

That been said, the SA5000s are the worst hifi headphones I've ever owned. Stay away.

in this case you were unlucky. since the whole replacing bestheaphonesevAr is quite common, just this specific example isn't really an example of it.

You want to check this again??
But this time with the K-702.

701 = 702
exactly, k702 = 701. And Lucky lol!!: he replaced it with a HE90 hahahaha that was hilarious, I wasn't expecting that either.
