True Line-Out DAPs?

I'm looking for a DAP with true line-out. The Karma would have been my first choice, but unfortunately the line-out requires the dock, and I would use the line-out for a portable amp. Unless there's a portable adapter for line-out on the karma, are there other DAPs with true line-out?

sorry, accidentally posted in wrong forum! mod please move to portable audio forum, thanks!

rule out the x5. besides having to use a dock, if you have any of the various sound adjustors enabled, that will be affect the line-out.

h120 from iriver. It has a digital out and a line out. If you wanted to you could get a portable dac and bypass the internal components completely.

I recently got myself an Iriver H120. I got a larger capacity (>24h) battery and are waiting for the new 40GB drives in 5mm form factor to become avilable.

This unit has headphone out, and digital/analog line-out, as well as digital/analog line-in. The unit works great to drive the Lavry DA10 DAC in crystal lock mode and unlike some other reports I have not been able to discern any difference in sound quality from this output to my normal sound card output run through an additional dejitter unit. The variation in these units might of course be larger than typical hifi gear.

It also has a built-in FM radio from which you can record as well as from the built-in microphone. The line-in also provides plug-in power for external electret mics so you can easily get a better quality microphone for field recordings.

The alternative rockbox operating system is available for this model as well.

The headphone output has unfortunately quite a bit of noise with my super-fi 5 pro but this is less of an issue with the Ety er-4s.

Cheers

the only thing about the h120 is that I heard it's not a true line-out since it's affected by the volume (happens in my h340 too). or am i just mistaken?

The line out on the H1xx and H3xx players is a true line-out. Someone followed all the traces and found that it is a true line-out. Volume is done via software, not the hardware of the players.

I would try using the headphone output on the karma as a line out. Set the volume level to 29. I used to have a karma and this sounded almost identical to the lineout on the dock.
