Another Budget Setup Thread

Hello community,

I need some help with deciding which speakers to suggest to a friend.
The source will be an e-mu 0404 and the amp will most probably be a t-amp. Now I did read that the paradigm atoms were a pretty decent match with this low-cost piece of gear, but the problem here is that I wouldn't know where to order those speakers from.
So I was looking around and found the B&W dm303, which doesn't seem to be bad at all, but the question here is whether it'd be a good match with the sonic t-amp.
Other speakersuggestions around 200€ would be good as well, as long as there's a synergy with the system.

P.S.: Are there any (very) cheap bookshelfspeaker stands?

The paradigm Titans work very well with my T-Amp. Althugh I would have to suggest a pretty high amp wallwart. >3 amps or just use a battery and trickle charge it.

These stands are pretty cheap.

Dont know about the 0404 but the 1212m has a problem with the t-amp. Probably an impedance mismatch, the volume is too low to be usable.

I wouldn't recommend buying any speakers without listening to them first. The speakers are the part of the system that you are actually listening to. You can buy other sorts of components without auditioning them, but speakers are too important for that. I would recommend to go to a stereo store (yes, even Circuit City or the Good Guys!) and camp out in the listening room. Bring a bunch of different kinds of CDs and a yellow pad to take notes on. If a salesman tries to talk to you, chase him away. All you need to hear is the speakers, not the sales pitch. Listen to EVERYTHING without checking the price tags. Boil it down to your top picks, and then start looking at the prices. You'll find that some low price speakers perform as well as the expensive ones. Sound is all that counts, and this process makes it easy to choose.

See ya
Steve
