Opinions on IC for my setup

Hi All,

Here is my rig:

Cambridge Audio 640C V2 (on UPS truck )
MF X-Can v3
Senn HD 650's

I need some IC to connect the 640 to the X-can. I've been considering the audioquest diamondback. Is this overkill for my system? Is there better value elsewhere?

Thanks

What kind of presentation do you prefer?

Have you modded the Xcan yet? The overall combo might be too bright. I suggest you don't get a bright IC.

No I have not modded it. What are the suggested mods for this?

What about the "blue jeans" cables, are they any good? Seems like they are far cheaper and yet claim to be very good.

I wouldn't say any cable would be 'overkill', except that an expensive cable can reveal flaws in your setup. You might want to search this forum for the various Grover UR and Oritek X-1 IC's. I myself own a X-1 and I am very pleased with it. It's a transparent and unforgiving cable though, so make sure you research a little before buying it. They're a little steeper than the Diamondback (same with the Grovers), but both are great value for their price.

I'm selling some great (and relatively unknown on Headfi) Chimera Laboratories IC's in the forsale forum. If you're interested I suggest you look at the reviews I link to.

I have some Blue Jeans IC's and they are a great value in sound and price. They are very well made, and you can have them cut to length. They also offer a 30 day trial so you can return them if not happy. It is always possible to do better, but you would have to spend a fair amount of $ to do so.

Based on the advice that the diamondbacks might be too bright, I decided to order the Analysis Plus Oval One for $74 (0.5m). Will see how these work out and go from there. Thanks all.

Go with Blue Jeans, can't go wrong with them.

Bluejeans makes a good cable for the money, but if you want a top notch cable talk to Grover.

My rule is that no cable is overkill. They always bring an improvement. I'd recommend a Siltech Cable, possibly SQ-18s. They are fairly expensive, but they sound great. They might be a bit too laid back. If that's the case either something by Zu or an Analysis Plus IC.
