Stanton Dynaphase Sixty headphones - Page 3

I once read somewhere that it was in excess of 25 million worldwide since '68. Or was that the VW Beetle? On their website Sennheiser only claims that it remains the world's best-selling headphone of all time. But then again they also claim it was the world's first open headphone.

edit-- ah, we see below the figure was actually 10 million. What's 15 million among friends?

In that case, yes they would have sold more than Stax have total. Having said that, I wouldn't be suprised if Stax have sold over a million headphones over the course of their existance (or at least getting close now).

Yes, those are some nice piccies. Either tyre used a 14-megapixel DSLR monster or some 2-MP point-and-shoot model. If it's the latter, I reserve the right to be amazed.

So Sex, any idea yet which drivers you want to stuff in your Sixty? Don't know that you'd really want to paint the housings too. I saw some photos recently of a Technics SL-1200 turntable that had been painted and anodized blue and bright pink but it's hard to say whether that concept would translate well to -- or be worth the time for -- a headphone. But hey, knock yourself out. Don't forget to color-match the cable and connector potting while you're at it, not to mention the headband "pleather" material. LOL

Recieved the headphones yesterday in sexcellent condition!

Haven't decided on the drivers. For some reason i was thinking the cans were metal and already painted but they are infact plastic. Good quality plastic however.

I was amazed at how well the headphones looked despite being ~30 some years old. They were packed great too

These are also huge, bigger than my head. Not letting anyone see me wear these for sure.

There is so much weirdness going on in this thread.

We sold at least 100 414s for every Stanton. I was 19, a sophmore at Pitt, but I remember.

Audio Warehouse, Pittsbiurgh PA, circa 1974-1977. If you walked in the door, you walked out with a pair of Advents, and if you were lucky an HK 930 receiver and an AR turntable. Life was sweet.

Can anyone tell me about the Dynaphase forty - I am a complete Nubie - and I have a nice pair of these - curious about them what they are worth etc?
