I think most AKG headphones use that? The 501 I owned had that as well as the 601 I owned a while back however yes the K702/65 use that mechanism as well.

I've been meaning to try k701 pads but never gotten round to it, guess now's the time:k701smile:post #844 of 9262/12/13 at 3:14am- Sorrodje

I'm thinking of buying the k701 pads, AKG is selling them for $24.66 a piece, free shipping. Sounds like a good price to me. Thoughts?

I think it is a good price but it depends of course on how much you are willing to pay to pet your old k501

Quote:That's why I havent purchased them yet. I have only had my K501's for maybe a month now. Upon listening for the first time I was not impressed, but i stuck with them and I havent even listened to my other phones in a week or two. So I'm going to order the new pads and a couple other parts that I need to bring them up to "like new" standards.

just a few words to say I could spend few hours with my K501 these last days and I'm really surprised to enjoy this headphone so much.
It brings me a very natural wey to present classical and jazz music with especially great, full and addictive mids. It's really the first can I own wich gives such a "speaker-like" experience. This AKG is a perfect puchase to compliment my main headphone (Ultrasone Sig pro) which is amazing but offer a more "headphone" experience. IMO K501 is especially perfect for chamber music or litlle orchestra and small Jazz groups like Piano trios or Saxophone/horns + Rhythm section quartets/quintets. Voices and every acoustic music sound marvelous too.
So .. i'm in love with my K501 which sound nearly like my Living room hifi gear.

@Sorrodje
my experience is the same - with some kind of music with K501 a relaxed hearing is feasible, sometimes I like my K501 more than my others

K501 remembers my more than all others to the K1000!

Great reflections Sorrodje. Yes, k501 is really special with that kind of music. I use them too probably most of my headphones right now. With the k701 pads there is a little more bass but everything is cleared and controled nevertheless. With small acoustic orchestras I even think they are more natural than HD650, but with the same warmth in the midrange and a little more sparkling treble. The mids of the k501 are very fluid and everything sounds so natural, transparent and relaxed. I really like them too.post #854 of 9262/15/13 at 12:51pm- Sorrodje

I think I will purchase new AKG pads ... AKG K501 bass are certainly light but strangely it's not awkward. In fact basses are discrete but present. Nevertheless I would like a bit more bodied/bottomed sound so a bit more bass would be appreciated. I think I will purchase K702 or K601 pads . I really enjoy velours pads !
I had a hifiman he-400 and the K501. Finally I keep the AKG and I've sold the Hifiman.

Based on my experience, K702/Q701 pads are bassier/warmer than K701 and K601 pads.
Unfortunately K702 pads due to being angled might ruin the mids of the K501.
I'm really surprised AKG still sells K501 pads!
I'm getting a K400 soon and will try K702 65th anniversary pads on it. K400 and K501 aren't too dramatically different I think.
