Lp -> CD, hardware help

Hi!

I want to transfer my old LP´s to CD. I have a receiver, LP-player and a computer. What would be the most affordable sound card for this job? Perhaps in the sub 200$ range.

Thanks!

The most important part quality-wise is a good phono preamp. Apparently you can achieve pretty good results with DIY concepts like the one from the c't project (this one enjoys some popularity here). Once that is taken care of, every half-decent recording card that can record in 24/96 should do. (And make sure your software can actually record in 24 bit. Audacity in Windows can't. There's a Line-In plugin for Winamp that can, and apparently the recording function in Foobar2k also allows larger sample sizes. To get to 44.1 kHz 16 bit after editing is done (if you want that), use the best sample rate converter you can find - like SSRC with the HQ exe in twopass mode - and make sure you're using dithering.)

Do you have any recommendations for a phono pre-amp which would not be too expensive. I'm also not too sure with those softwares you just mentioned. Is there any in particular that you recommend ? Do you have a link?

Thanks

For the few albums that I couldn't get on CD but wanted to take along with me on my DAP, I've had good results using a Rega fono pre-amp -> M-Audio Transit DAC -> mp3 using Audacity (freeware or shareware, I forget) software and LAME. This was my "low budget" solution, as I had the phono pre-amp, and found the Transit on ebay. For Mac users, Toast comes "Spin Doctor" that does much the same thing.
