Isis

Anyone here into Isis? I saw them a couple months ago at the Troubadour in LA. The show kicked major ass and as a bonus Justin from Tool got on stage and played the last song with them. Great stuff.

Isis are one of the most fascinating metal bands to me, I love their song structures and their long-tracks. They just keep getting better, Panopticon was the best album I've heard in 2004. Looking forward to hearing some new stuff from them this year as well as from Tool which will be in spring

Isis, is a good band. Neurosis is, too.

Yeah, Isis is very nice.

Do they have any non-cookie monster vocals album?
Ive heard Oceanic and I love the music but I cant handle the growling.
Still having a hard time with Opeth...

I don't think Panopticon (their newest) has that much growling-ish vocals.

Yes, Panopticon has mellower vocals than Oceanic, in fact, most of it is instrumental anyway.

Oceanic is their best material, imo.

I only have Oceanic. Gorgeous disk. Impressionistic post-rock in the vein of God Speed You Black Emperor done in a metal form, and done right. I read on some review site that Neurosis had always hovered around creating a brilliant album but never really nailed it, whereas Isis gets it right with Oceanic. Well, I've never heard Neurosis, but Oceanic scores major points in my book.

The cookie-monster vocals really didn't annoy me very much, and the voice is used very sparingly. Mostly, it's an instrumental disk, and most of it is devoted to atmosphere. Instrumentation is minimal, and never more than what is necessary to get the musical point across.

Has anyone heard of the band Mare? They're just awesome. Check them out here.

It's beautiful and just super heavy at the same time.

Along these same lines are, of course, Pelican and Jesu. Check them out too.

Pelican are an awesome all instrumental band, I have only briefly heard Jesu which was very good too.

Pelican is super good, but I wasn't into their latest, and the EP was OK at best. Their REAL work was in the self titled, and Australasia.

The songs "Mammoth" and "Drought" kill everything in its path.

EDIT: Also, you haven't heard these guys until you hear them live. FACT.

Here is a link to an awesome Isis live clip with 3 songs from Swedish TV, with great sound/picture quality.
