Come on now, that wasn't very nice He's just trying to keep it on topic.

I think if he tried long and hard, he could have come up with a more polite way of doing it. The way I read his post that I quoted, I stand by my post....

Hmm I don't want this to come off sounding smart, but this is the -exact- recipe for the signal cable magicpower, carol 4/3 with marinco terminations and heatshrink /w tech flex.. any differences you hear should be burn in related.

When I first auditioned aftermarket power cords in my own system (or that of a friend's) about 10 years ago, I tried many brands and was impressed by 3 brands which are still in business today. I was impressed by the sense of rhythm from the Synergistic Reference cord, but felt the soundstage became too constricted or narrow. The 1st generation Electra Glide made music explosive like no other cable and gave music a very lush sounding midrange which was intoxicating. I ended up purchasing the Essential Sound Products 'The Essence' power cord for all the components in my system in the end, because it seemed to offer the most balanced presentation of the cords I tried. It wasn't overly romantic, but, improved just about every area I could hope for in my system. My friend bought ESPs and Electra Glides and eventually upgraded to the Electra Glide Fat Boy and maybe even the Fat Man. These were too rich for my blood, as impressive as they were/are.

I happily used the ESP cords in my main system for years. But, after I upgraded to a better amp and preamp, I thought it might be time to find a way to squeeze further performance from my rig. Ultimately, I ended up replacing my ESP power cords with PS Audio xStream Statement v3 power cords and experience ear to ear grins and that "Holy Sh__" factor you seek on a daily basis. I also use PS Audio power conditioning gear.

Oddly enough, I just got a mailing from ESP the other day, announcing their new Reference line of power cords with a fairly generous trade-in policy. I'd be very curious to check these out, but, at this point, I'm committed to and happy with the PS Audio cords. I now use most of the ESPs in my headphone system, but don't feel the urge to upgrade the cords for it.

Actually, the MagicPower uses Carol 10/3. I think the smaller gauge (14g) that I am now may account for the difference that I am hearing. I did burn in all cables by leaving the GS-1 on for a couple of weeks before making my final evaluations.

The two cords mentioned in my signature are the ones that yeiled the most positive differences in my system.

Biggie.

First one that convinced me that I had to even pay attention to power cables was the Virtual Dynamics Power 3. That got my attention in a big way. Other cables since have been much better (I'm now using both the Nite II and Master Series in main rigs) but that was the one that first knocked me out of my chair.

I have done a H.S. that's no good! But I'm hoping to do a H.S. that's good tomorrow with a Nordost Shiva arrival (if on time). My candidates to audition were Audience, Nordost Shiva or Vishnu. Shiva popped up first. I'm a sucker for a good review by a certain few reviewers and liked the way HIFI+'s guy said the Shiva lived up to it's name "Goddess of destruction" in the way it laid waste to some competitors. If not, oh well, purchased used.

Think about this for a second. You're spending hundreds of dollars on a power cord, that is really going to be just the last 5 feet or so of a power connection that is much longer. You're just plugging it into wall power that's running through 10 cents/foot Romex. Romex is actually capable of very clean power conductivity. It's just that the braided cr@p that a normal power cord is made of can dirty that up at the end.

Ever try a diy power cable made from 12 guage Romex? I bet it would sound pretty good - it wouldn't have any flex to it, but your bank account would.....
I find that an interesting idea...??? I'd like to do a comparison of wall cable...make a good thread.

I've tried literally dozens of PC's...and not just expensive ones...I've also tried big, medium and small gauge pc's from home depot and lowes. I find that the most versatile cables are the Virtual Dynamics 3, and the Harmonic Tech Fantasy cables...Both of these cables have made every component I've tried them on sound better...evey one...

I like the PsAudio digital cables on my digital source and I use a Virtual dynamics Nite cable on my amp...just seems to let the music through but it costs quite a bit more then the others. I also like Audience PC's...almost a tube like quality to their sound...very open, transparent.

I made a tri-braided 14 gauge power cord from Romex and the sonic results were less than spectacular; it resulted in a rather bright and somewhat grainy sound on my amp.

I've done a similar thing, and it had MAJOR smearing in the mids and lower highs....definitely not recommended.

I got some noname brand "medical grade" 14/3 cord from my old workplace when they shut down a repair lab. Stranded, well insulated and shielded. It had a generic green dot plug, and I bought a Marinco IEC and put it on. ~10ft of pretty good (or "lack of bad") sounding cord. Did a good job for a while when I had a component far away from an outlet.

Doh! I stand corrected
