Cardas Golden Power

Most hi fidelity equipment today is so brutally detail oriented that smoothness, or relax ness in the mid to upper treble is a mandatory requirement for me when looking for a power cable especially on a digital source.

I recommend trying the K-Works Empowered Cord. I recieved one from TTVJ when I got the demo XR-2 and I was quite impressed with it. It didn't make me say "holy sh__" but it yielded the biggest difference in a power cord upgrade i've heard yet.

For me it's been the Zu Mother. I bought mines when they were first being introduced and could be found on Ebay for $200ish. From there I tried a few others...Zcable Lightning, K-works Empowered, Tekline PC-12, Shunyata Taipan...and always went back to the Mother. For the money it was the one that offered very noticeable differences for the better, and the areas were what I expected from a power cord upgrade. A more impacting and solid, more authorative bass foundation, smoother treble, and a blacker background. The others tended to play tone control in my system one way or another and just got annoying during extended listening. To this day I'm still using the Mothers and feel no need to look any further on the power cord front.

i dont have any experience with various manufacturers, but i have been using vhaudio on source and amp for awhile, i switched back to stock for awhile and the sound fell flat on its face, only swapping the flavor 1 back on the source was an AMAZING improvement. i am now considering seriously stepping up in price as well.

Every one? Problem is that sometimes you say 'holy sh!%' because of just how bad it is Power cords do make a difference, just not always a positive one. Synergy is key.

TG Audio SLVR for me. I had played with cords a fair bit, nothing TOO expensive. I found one used, plugged it in, and heard improvements from deepest bass up to the midrange tonally, and focus/imaging tightened up as well.

Sold off when I downsized, but still keep an eye out for a good deal....

Love the Zu Mother & Kworks Empowered, still use all the time.

However most noticeable change caused soley by AC cord was few years ago with first VD Nite (before master and revelation series were developed).......unfortunately great sound offset by high cost and size/bending to shape hassles.

I need many AC cords for two stereo systems and since I have expensive passive AC conditioning with Audio Magic and Shunyata now limit max cost of any single cord to $250 new or used.

I wouldn't say it's a "holy SH__"? cable, more like an "Ahhhhhhhh" cable, but I use the Cardas Golden Reference power cord.

"Ultimate current flow, excellent isolation between components and broad band power line filtration. It is shielded and relatively flexible for its size."

In other words, it's quiet and dynamic.

Other good cords I have used are Harmonic Technology Fantasy AC-10, and the original Synergistic Research AC Master Coupler. FYI, the Master Coupler is very heavy and fairly stiff.

For me, the Virtual Dynamics Power 3 (most expensive I can afford right now) offers great improvement to my Wadia 23 CDP. I have a basic power cord going into my amp and I liked that much better than the K-works cord I had.

I've often wondered about this whole power cord thing, somewhere I got into a whole discussion on this topic on another thread, and a lot of high-end power cord advocates started saying, "hmmmm......"

Think about this for a second. You're spending hundreds of dollars on a power cord, that is really going to be just the last 5 feet or so of a power connection that is much longer. You're just plugging it into wall power that's running through 10 cents/foot Romex. Romex is actually capable of very clean power conductivity. It's just that the braided cr@p that a normal power cord is made of can dirty that up at the end.

Ever try a diy power cable made from 12 guage Romex? I bet it would sound pretty good - it wouldn't have any flex to it, but your bank account would.....

PLEASE STICK TO THE TITLE OF THIS THREAD AND NOT CRAP OR PUT IN ANY OTHER IDEAS...
I WANT TO KNOW THE POWER CABLE THAT MADE YOU SAY "HOLY SH__" AND THATS ALL, WELL OF COURSE YOU CAN SAY WHY AND STUFF BUT DON'T CRAP MY THREAD.

Signal cable for moi

I don't have the bucks to buy the high end stuff,so the Signal Cable cords worked FANTASTIC for me. Great price and well built. Plus a big improvement over stock power cords and IC's.
Plus re-sale value on Signal Cable stuff is GREAT! it sells like hotcakes on Audiogon.

The best "sounding" PC I've tried on my GS-1 is generic 14/3 unshielded cable that came packaged with my Parts Express 500W subwoofer amp. I've tried others but they all had something about them that didn't sound quite right...

D.I.Y. VH Audio Flavor 2: midrange too forward with glare
Signal Cable MagicPower: rolled off in treble
Volex 17604: bass and treble rolled off; midrange kind of "bloated"

Unfortunately, stupid me overshortened the Parts Express cable when I tried to reterminate them with a Marinco plug. I don't see it listed anywhere in their catalog so I can't order a new one. Right now I'm using Carol 14/3 unshielded wire with Marinco IEC and wall plugs and it sounds pretty good. I'm going to try the Iron Lung Jellyfish PC in the near future.
