My sister's film got into the Park City Music Film Festival!

You know how I said that my sister Shanghai'd the Darth Beyers all year to make her movie? And that the sound guy REALLY liked it, and they used it to mix the soundtrack, etc etc?

Well, my sister's film just got into its first festival, the Park City Music Film Festival! It's held in the same place and time as the Sundance and Slamdance film festivals, so there's a good chance folks from those festivals will check out this festival too, and vice versa. Her film was only one of 16 to make it in this year - it's my understanding that this festival celebrates the role of music in film, and my sister make a point of using all contemporary Asian American musicians/artists/songwriters/composers for her film, spanning a lot of genres. (Otaku alert - the composer of her instrumental music is doing music for Robotech:The Shadow Chronicles). - this lil bro' is very proud!

And here's a direct link to the screenings! Her movie is on the list - look for "Purity!"

EDIT- She got into two more, if you are town go check em out!

11th Annual Chicago Asian American Film Showcase
April 5, 8pm, Gene Siskel Film Center

22nd Annual Visual Communications Los Angeles Asian Pacific American Film Festival
May 4 - 11th, 2006
Date and theater TBA

Oops sorry! Shanghai'd - I edited it to be correct. In other words, to have been kidnapped! Otherwise spelled as Shanghaied!

it only got that rating because you mooned the camera when we had the whole congregation act as extras. how could you do that, and in church even?

AWESOME they just updated the page - I added the direct link to the screenings in the first post, but here's the description they put-

"PURITY 1hr 40m, Dir: NaRhee Ahn Composer George Shaw
The daughter of a minister has lost her mother - both she and her father are grieving, so she decides to postpone her studies for a while as she works to get her bearings. She develops a relationship with a young man she admires. The relationship becomes an embarrassment for the father, since the young man is perceived to be a renegade. This may seem like a simple story, but there are nuances that make this a very interesting film."

She submitted her film to about 50 festivals, so I'm certain the Asian-American Film Festival's on her list too, so here's hoping!

Cool, glad to hear that about your sis.

Dang, I was all excited thinking it meant "Battery Park City" Music Film Festival, so that we should organize a night out to catch the film... but Utah's a wee bit further West than I anticipated.

Still, congrats to your sis!

Best,

-Jason

That's awesome Jahn, I wish her luck! I used DT770s to do some sound syncing for short films in school, they really did an excellent job.
