I know people bash on Bose because of they're over priced and I agree. I believe these retail for about $150 or so and I paid $85 for these due to employee discount at where I work. With that...

It may be the format, and the range of the resolution.
This program is the simplest converter I have found for the archos.
http://iriverter.sourceforge.net/
It's called iRiverter. It was designed for the following players with the iRiver H300 series in mind. The good think is that it is very easy to use. It converts DVD or video files into the formats of the player below. You first choose for which player do you want to create a video file, so that it creates the video file with the right settings for that player.
Players Compatible with this programs.
-iRiver H300
-iRiver PMP 100
-iAudio X5
-Archos Gmini
If you have any problems in XP it is because of the compatibility mode. Fixing this is simple by following the rules in the following quote from iRiverters site.
"A lot of people have been telling me that iriverter simply doesn't run on their computers. I have traced this down to an issue with iriverter on Windows XP. To workaround this, go to C:\Program Files\iriverter\, right click on iriverter.exe, and go over to the compatiblity tab. Enable Windows 2000 compatiblity and apply. iriverter should run fine then."

it support avi that is encoded with divx or xvid, at dvd resolution. i cant go to archos.com right now for some reason, so i'm not sure it support ac3 encoding for the music of the movie, but i dont think so. but with lame mp3 or wav as the sound should work. you can find out the information of your avi with the program virtualdub, file information in the 'file' menu. virtualdub is also one of the most excellent avi video encoding program.
for mpg, this is tricky, but basicly it should be standard format.
