Would have snagged them a long time ago myself but the seller doesn't accept Paypal.

$495 is tasty though....

Saw that and don't trust it

Over the years I have bought and sold hundreds of items on EBay (my feedback rating is over 400 positives and not a single negative). I never listed an item for sale without an actual picture of the thing, and I won't buy them without one either. I do NOT trust the "stock photo" thing at all.

Add to that the eliminattion of the only (relatively) safe payment method, and I say, "Danger Will Robinson!"

15.00 USPS Parcel Post?? He could ship them Priority with full insurance & delivery confirmation for less than that.

eBay sellers profitting from shipping costs?

NOOOOOOOOO.

It can't be.

Well at least he's not a Western Union only seller.

The seller also has only one "seller" feedback, which was from over two years ago. In addition, "excellent condition" is subjective. The seller needs to more accurately describe the cosmetic/functional condition, especially on a big ticket item such as this. Or better yet, show some actually pics! As an eBay buyer/seller for over 5 years, I personally wouldn't touch this auction with a ten foot pole.

Stock pictures are just for music CDs and Console games.

Personally if I were interested, I'd contact the seller directly and see what their attitude was, as well as requesting some pics, etc. It could be a scam, but there's some reasonable doubt too. Lots of eBay sellers just don't know what they're doing in terms of listing auctions and selling stuff (i.e. are rank amateurs in that department).

P.S. if it were a scam, it seems to me someone could just as easily go to a hifi store and take pictures, snatch some old pictures from the web, or any number of things.

I agree with fewtch. Personal contact is priceless in any biz deal. We here at head-fi are spoiled. We do everything we can to make every deal a wonderful experience for the head-fier at the other end. Not so, always with ebay, but that doesn't necessarily make a seller a bad guy.

It could be ignorance, but I doubt it. The seller has an eBay history as a buyer that stretches back to September of 2001. I agree that this auction is highly suspicious for the following (already mentioned, but they bear repeating) reasons:
  • No images of the actual RS-1's he's selling. A stock photo doesn't cut it for a relatively fragile, high-dollar item like this.
  • He's not accepting Paypal. The buyer will have NO fraud protection at all when he or she mails that money order.
  • The seller only has ONE feedback item as a seller, and that dates back to June of 2003.

I've contacted him about getting some real images, so let's see what kind of response I get. For now this auction has red flags flying all over it IMO.

I was going to do the same thing, but I will wait to see if you get any pics!

I'll let you know if and when he responds.
